Marshall's ‘yards per route run' sixth best over the last three seasons

Pro Football Focus turned its attention back to the offensive side of the ball after last week's tackling breakdown, and it featured some impressive numbers from new Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
The statistic "yards per route run" is as simple as it sounds: divide a player's receiving yards by the number of times a player ran a route. PFF notes that yards per catch is biased toward deep threats, and yards per target hurts elite receivers who are targeted often but receive extra attention from defensive secondaries.
Over the last three years, Marshall has racked up 3,348 receiving yards, tenth most in the NFL over that span. NFC North counterparts Calvin Johnson (4,002) and Greg Jennings (3,800) ranked first and fourth in the NFL, respectively.
Over that same span, Marshall has run 1,488 pass routes. That number does not put him in the top 10, making it all the more impressive that Marshall has caught so many passes for so many yards.
Putting both Marshall's numbers together, and stacking them up against the rest of the league, his 2.25 yards per route run is tied for sixth best in the NFL over the last three seasons.
Houston Texans' wide receiver Andre Johnson leads the league with a 2.59 YPRR, while Packers rising star Jordy Nelson finished fourth at 2.40 YPRR. Minnesota's Percy Harvin was fifth at 2.37, and Sidney Rice, who spent two of the three tracked seasons with the Vikings, was tenth at 2.15.
Marshall did finish in front of Detroit's Johnson, who has a 2.12 YPRR. Green Bay's Jennings was right behind him at 2.11.
Of the 10 worst wide receivers in YPRR, former Bears wideout and current free agent Bernard Berrian finished fourth worst, at 1.03.
