Besides Doan, what options remain for Blackhawks?

More than two weeks after NHL free agency began, the Blackhawks only signing remains defenseman Sheldon Brookbank. The Hawks are believed to be one of several teams interested in signing Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan, but his decision has been delayed by the potential sale of the only franchise he's played for.

Other than Doan, the remaining free agent options are thin.

If general manager Stan Bowman is willing to add an offense-only player to boost the power play, he could turn to Washington Capitals right winger Alexander Semin. A terrific talent, Semin scored 40 goals with 84 points in 2009 but his numbers have dropped the last two seasons and he's never been known to play both ends of the ice.

The remaining defenseman include Carlo Colaiacovo (St. Louis Blues), Michal Rozsival (Coyotes), Pavel Kubina (Philadelphia Flyers) and Matt Gilroy (Ottawa Senators).

The most intriguing remaining option might be 29-year-old center Kyle Wellwood who scored 18 goals with 29 assists for the Winnipeg Jets last season. He should be relatively inexpensive and could post similar or better numbers while flanked by a pair of talented Blackhawks wingers.
