Blackhawks, Carcillo agree on two-year extension

While Daniel Carcillos season was lost when he suffered a knee injury in January, the Chicago Blackhawks made it pretty clear that they liked what he brought to the team. On Monday they put it in writing.

The Blackhawks agreed to terms with Carcillo on a two-year contract extension on Monday. The 26-year-old forward had 11 points and 82 penalty minutes in 28 regular-season games. Carcillo had found his early niche as part of the Blackhawks second line with Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa, providing grit and protection for the two stars.

While Carcillo plays with an edge, sometimes he went over it. His hit on Edmontons Tom Gilbert on Jan. 2 earned him a seven-game suspension, the 10th time in his career he had been suspended or fined. He also suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on that play and had surgery for it on Jan. 13. Hes currently doing rehab on that knee.
