Carcillo to miss ‘some time' with lower-body injury

LOS ANGELESDaniel Carcillo was probably counting the minutes until the Blackhawks regular-season schedule began again. It had been a long year for the forward, who underwent season-ending left knee surgery on Jan. 17 of last year.

Unfortunately, Carcillos return may have been short lived.

Carcillo is going to miss some time, coach Joel Queneville said, after suffering a lower-body injurypossibly to his right kneein the Blackhawks 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. It was a tough blow for Carcillo, who had been cleared from his left knee injury in the fall and was ready to start again this season.

Replays showed Carcillo got tangled up with Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, and his right knee got pinned along the boards.

Dannys going to miss some time here. Well know more of the time frame tomorrow, said Quenneville, who had talked all week on how depth was going to be important for the Blackhawks this season. Thats hockey and thats exactly what were talking about. Weve got six (games) in nine days here, so its a busy road schedule right off the bat. And I thought Danny played a heck of a game, too.

However long Carcillo is sidelined, its an opportunity for someone else. Asked if this is a chance for Brandon Saad, who made the Blackhawks roster out of camp again, Quenneville said, likely.

Carcillo spent the brief training camp on the Blackhawks top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, and he was there today against the Kings. He had the primary assist on Hossas first goal, which gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead at the time.

Carcillo talked about his long road to recoverymade longer by the lockoutearlier this week.

I used (the time) to make changes in my life and its been good, he said. When you have an injury like that, you just focus on yourself a lot more, you know? Im just glad to be back around the guys and be in this environment again.
