Crawford to start in net, Hawks fight to avoid elimination

GLENDALE -- Corey Crawford will start in goal and Jonathan Toews was rallying the team as the Chicago Blackhawks try to stave off elimination in Game 5 against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight.

There was a question whether Crawford, who has allowed two bad goals for the Coyotes' overtime winners in Games 3 and 4, would start this game, possibly the last for the Blackhawks as they try to overcome a 3-1 deficit in this Western Conference Quarterfinal series. But coach Joel Quenneville said the Blackhawks are comfortable with Crawford, and he gets the go.

As for those past goals, Crawford said, "there's nothing I can do about that now. Its whats next. And I'll focus on the present."

The Blackhawks also have to be focused right now. After Quenneville did his usual post-skate talk, Toews grabbed the team together and talked to them a few moments more. Quenneville said the Blackhawks have to bring some energy fast tonight.

"We need more pace, enthusiasm, and we need to be all-out desperate tonight. Thats where we have to get our excitement," he said. "We have to look at the smaller picture. It's comparable to last year (when we) found a way to work ourselves back. We have to get some positive encouragement. We're at the point where talk isnt going to get it done. We have to get reaction."

It appears Brenden Morrison will be in the lineup for the second consecutive game.

Marian Hossa did not make the trip but the Blackhawks put his equipment in a locker here at Jobing.com Arena.
