After the Blackhawks' disappointing first-round elimination from the 2012 playoffs, assistant coach Mike Haviland was fired after Joel Quenneville said there was dysfunction among the coaching staff.
Just six weeks since he was let go, it appears that Haviland could have another opportunity in the league come his way.
According to CSNWashington.com, the Capitals have recently interviewed Haviland for their vacant head coach position and appear to like what they have seen. The former member of the Blackhawks organization may currently be the top runner for the opening.

Capitals general manager George McPhee has not yet offered the job and plans to meet with additional candidates throughout the NHL draft on Friday and Saturday.
Right winger Troy Brouwer spent three season under Haviland before being dealt to the Capitals. He wouldn't mind being reunited with his former assistant coach.
"He's a guy that everyone I played with respected. He could fit in with the Capitals very nicely," Brouwer told Capitals insider Chuck Gormley.
Haviland's resume includes winning the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, as well as coaching six years in the minor leagues. During his time in the AHL, his teams never missed the playoffs and he was awarded the title of AHL's Coach of the Year in 2006-07.
