Northwestern linebacker Collin Ellis was named as Big Ten's defensive player of the week. Ellis intercepted two passes and returned both for touchdowns in the Wildcats' road win against California. He became the first player in school history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in a single game.

Ellis also finished the game with four tackles, including one for a loss. The redshirt sophomore claims his first career Defensive Player of the week honor. The last Northwester player to earn this honor was Chi Chi Ariguzo on Sept. 12, 2012.
