Even though Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is dealing with the fallout from Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, he took a moment to recognize the achievements of the Eastern Illinois football team.
The former EIU quarterback sent a video to his alma mater, congratulating the team on their season thus far.
“It’s great to see every week I look up the scores. I get to see how you guys are playing it's awesome,” Romo said. “I’m rooting for you guys. I wish I could be there for homecoming to see how great the team really is.”
The video was played on the Jumbotron at Saturday's homecoming game.
Eastern Illinois (7-1) is currently the No. 2 team in the nation according to the NCAA FCS Coaches’ poll.
Romo played for the Panthers from 1999 to 2003. During his time in Charleston, he won three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of Week awards along with being named to the Division I-AA All-American team three times.
The Panthers next game is this Saturday against Tennessee Tech.
