Since John Groce’s arrival, Illinois has become a hot destination for transfer students. Groce will now have his sixth player transfer into the Fighting Illini program as former Oregon State guard Ahmad Starks announced on his twitter page that he will be attending the University of Illinois.

Starks, a five-foot nine junior point guard, decided to leave Corvallis and head back to his hometown of Chicago because of his grandmother’s health. He will apply for a family hardship waiver to be eligible to play for the Fighting Illini as soon as the 2013-14 season.

On the court, Starks is a deadly 3-point shooter. He shot 40 percent from long distance and averaged just over 10 points per game last season. He is Oregon State’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made (185) and attempted (505).
