Northwestern University announced Saturday that its board of trustees approved plans to build a complex for sports activities worth about 220 million on the Evanston campus.
The on-campus, lakeside complex will include a 2,500-seat multipurpose facility, a diving well, an outdoor practice field for varsity sports, club sports and intramurals, locker rooms, fitness and weight rooms and a 1,200-space parking structure on the north end of campus.
After construction, all of the schools football activities will be consolidated on the main campus. Currently, the Wildcats practice near Ryan Field, where games will continue to be played.

"This new plan will provide greatly enhanced recreational facilities for all of our students, increased parking at the north end of campus and improved key areas for our athletic programs," Northwestern president Morton Schapiro said in a school release. "This will be a
benefit to many members of the Northwestern community."
The timetable for construction is dependent on fundraising, according to the school.
