Chuck Martin is making less as Miami of Ohio's head coach than he made as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator. Specifically, he's making $200,000 less, according to Yahoo's Dan Wetzel.
As Notre Dame's offensive coordinator, Martin earned $650,000 a year. But at Miami, a program that went 0-12 last year, he's only making $450,000. Notre Dame does not make public the salaries of its coaches.
Conversely, Bob Diaco -- Martin's coordinator counterpart at Notre Dame -- is being paid $1.5 million to coach UConn.
Martin told Wetzel there's a certain draw in trying to bring Miami back to national relevancy -- a status it enjoyed just over 10 years ago with Ben Roethlisberger as its quarterback.
"That's part of that is the allure in doing this," Martin told Wetzel. "A reporter came up to me after I took the job and honestly asked me, 'Do you think you can get this turned around?' And I said, 'Based on my last job and my last pay, if I can't then I am the dumbest person on the planet."
Wetzel's column is an excellent look at Martin's coaching philosophy (there's a can't-miss quote in there on it), as well as why he took the Miami job. Be sure to give it a read.
