Former Notre Dame Quarterback Jimmy Clausen was released by the Carolina Panthers.

The former second-round pick had not taken a snap under center since his rookie season in 2010.  In ten games that season, Clausen threw for 1,558 yards along with three touchdowns passes and nine interceptions. He also finished dead last in total quarterback rating that season along with a 1-9 record as a starter. Clausen's days were numbered when the Panthers tabbed Cam Newton as their quarterback of the future a year later.

Clausen is well known for announcing his oral commitment to Notre Dame on the steps on the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana after arriving in a stretch Hummer limousine.

The Panthers will enter the season with Cam Newton as their starting quarterback and Derek Anderson as his backup.
