SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame returned to practice Monday, and did so with a far cleaner bill of health than a week ago.
Kona Schwenke (ankle) participated and coach Brian Kelly said he was "pleased" with how the defensive lineman looked.
Defensive linemen Isaac Rochell and Jarron Jones, both of whom suffered ankle injuries Nov. 9 at Pitt, also practiced.
Kelly sounded less optimistic about the status of linebacker Ishaq Williams (knee), who missed nearly the entire Air Force game as well as the Navy and Pitt contests.
"I thought he was a little tentative yesterday but I think he's going to get better," Kelly said.
The bye week -- in which Notre Dame did not practice -- allowed Kelly to hold a fairly rigorous practice on Monday, a rarity in the team's week-to-week schedule. After having his team rest up last week, though, Kelly said he needed it to get an early read on the statuses of guys like Schwenke, Williams, Rochell and Jones, among others.
"We had a lot of guys that did not practice last Wednesday," Kelly said. "I needed to know if these guys could play."
