Notre Dame's initial plan was to make a decision in May as to whether or not Jarrett Grace would be able to play in 2014, but that's now been pushed back to late June, coach Brian Kelly said
at a fundraiser in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Thursday.
Grace's father told CSNChicago.com the linebacker underwent X-rays on his previously-broken leg Tuesday and that "everything's healing well." Grace underwent a second surgery on his leg in late March, and at the time Kelly said Notre Dame should know Grace's status six weeks from the procedure.
Getting Grace back for the 2014 season would be a big boost for Brian VanGorder's depth at inside linebacker. While playing more 4-3 defenses means Notre Dame will only need one inside linebacker, Grace could join with fellow senior Joe Schmidt and incoming freshman Nyles Morgan to comprise a formidable group inside.
In seven games (three starts) last year, Grace recorded 41 tackles and one tackle for a loss.
