UConn will hire Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco as its next head coach, leaving Brian Kelly searching for both coordinator positions.

Offensive coordinator Chuck Martin left the program last week to take the head coaching job at Miami (Ohio). While Martin's departure elicited positive responses from nearly every Irish offensive player who weighed in, the reaction to Diaco leaving wasn't as magnanimous.

Stephon Tuitt, whose decision whether to stay for another year or leave for the NFL Draft will greatly affect Notre Dame's chances next fall, tweeted: "Lol this program!!!! Everything is kept a secret!!!! I guess this is called come here make something out of yourself and leave."

Tuitt quickly deleted the tweet.

Freshman linebacker Jaylon Smith tweeted: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!:("

"This is awk," tweeted freshman defensive end Isaac Rochell.

Diaco will take over a lagging AAC program that went 3-9 and fired coach Paul Pasqualoni after four straight losses to open the 2013 season. Since Randy Edsall left for Maryland following a Fiesta Bowl berth in 2010, UConn has a 13-23 record.

A New Jersey native with ties to the northeast, Diaco was in contention for Boston College's open head coaching position last winter.
