Nunn to trim college list in August

Simeon Career Academy's Kendrick Nunn will cut his list of potential college schools to three or five on August 3rd, his father, Melvin, said.
The 6-foot-2 combo guard most recently picked up a scholarship offer from Thad Matta and Ohio State following his recent performance with the Meanstreets AAU team.
Nunn was also a contributor to the Men's U17 World Championship team, which went 8-0 to claim the gold medal earlier this month. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in eight games, including a Nunn's teammate, Jabari Parker, was forced to miss action with a foot injury.
Preps Bullseye's Roy Schmidt tweeted Tuesday that "now that Ohio St. has offered, there is no doubt that Buckeyes will be on list of schools" that Nunn releases Aug. 3.
Schmidt went on to add that he fully expects "Marquette, Memphis, UCLA & Illinois will be on 'official' list as well. Will see if there's anybody else."
Nunn currently holds offers DePaul, Florida State, Illinois, Marquette, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Providence and Texas A&M.
Nunn de-committed from Texas A&M in September 2011.

Carl Edwards Jr.'s special tie to Memorial Day

Carl Edwards Jr.'s special tie to Memorial Day

For Carl Edwards Jr., Memorial Day has a special meaning.

That's because the Cubs reliever has a very close tie to the armed services.

Edwards met his fiance, Nette Smith, before her deployment in Afghanistan. Throughout her active service, Edwards kept in touch by writing her letters. Their relationship eventually blossomed, and now the couple has a one-year-old child.

With Smith's army commitment finished, she views Memorial Day as a time to appreciate all those who serve.

"To me, Memorial Day is a day set aside for me to remember some of the people I have met who sacrificed everything," Smith said.
