98 Days to Kickoff: St. Charles East

CSNChicago.com preps reporter "Edgy" Tim O’Halloran spotlights 100 high school football teams in 100 days. The first 75 team profiles will focus on teams making strides across Chicagoland and elsewhere in the state. School: St. Charles East

Head coach: Bryce Farquhar

Assistant Coaches: Tim Wolf, Jon Kittl, Olijuwon Davis, Nolan Possley, Pat Schiller, Brian Teresinski, Gabe Nyenhuis, Mike Budziniski, Greg Bess, Len Asquini and Chris Goryl

How they fared in 2016: 11-1 (6-0 Upstate 8 River), lost to Palatine in the 8A state quarterfinal.

2017 Regular Season Schedule:

Aug. 25 – Rock Island

Sept. 1 – @ Glenbard East

Sept. 8 – @ Geneva

Sept. 15 - vs St. Charles North

Sept. 22 - @ Batavia

Sept. 29 – @ Bartlett

Oct. 6 - Larkin

Oct. 13 - Elgin

Oct. 20 - @ Streamwood

Biggest storyline: Can the Saints make another deep run in Class 8A?

Names to watch this season: Senior QB/DB Clayton Isbell, Senior RB/LB Nick Garlisch and Junior FB/LB Justin Jett

Biggest holes to fill: The Saints will need to reload up front, as junior Justin Hill (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) is the lone returning starter on the offensive line.

EDGY's Early Take: The Saints posted an impressive season in 2016. And sure, they will need to reload a bit, but the overall core is still very strong for the 2017 season. If the Saints can build up on the offensive and defensive lines, they could win the Upstate 8 River and make a strong run in Class 8A again this season.

Biggest storyline: Can the Chargers make a return visit to the IHSA state playoff in 20o17?

Names to watch this season: Senior WR/S Zach Ford Senior OL/DL Shamar Bishop-McDade

Biggest holes to fill: The Chargers welcome back just three starters on offense from a season ago.

EDGY's Early Take: The Chargers and then first year head coach Rich Petroski led the program to it's first state playoff appearance in school history in 2016. While St. Joe's will need to reload in some key spots, they have a chance to make another run at a state playoff spot again in 2017.

Prairie Ridge's Samson Evans commits to Iowa

Prairie Ridge junior Samson Evans (6'1", 190 lbs.) ended his recruiting process earlier Sunday, giving the Iowa Hawkeyes his verbal commitment.

"I just felt that Iowa was the best fit for my future," Evans, a three-star recruit, said. "It was something that was dwelling on me, and I didn't want to drag it on any longer than I had to. Iowa was a perfect fit for me and I knew that there wasn't much more of a reason to wait."

Evans, who led Prairie Ridge to the Class 6A State title in 2016 at quarterback, was offered and recruited by Iowa as a wide receiver.

"They (Iowa) see me starting out as an outside receiver," Evans said. "They will work me in there and then potentially in the future I'll be an inside slot receiver."

Evans is now the sixth known verbal commitment in the Iowa Hawkeyes Class of 2018 and joins Prairie Ridge teammate Jeff Jenkins -- a three-star offensive guard recruit -- as the second Land of Lincoln player to pledge to Iowa.
