Recruiting ramps up for Bolingbrook's Dashuan Mallory

Bolingbrook junior defensive tackle recruit Dashaun Mallory (6-foot-3, 270 pounds) could very well be on the verge of a big spring evaluation period recruiting breakout.

It's not like Mallory has been ignored by colleges so far. Mallory has added a half dozen scholarship offers from the likes of Iowa State, Wyoming, NIU and a handful of other Mid American Conference schools.

Yet when you are a quick, strong and highly athletic 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds plus defensive tackle with huge upside and potential, it's only a matter of time before the bigger boys come calling. Mallory made a recent visit to Michigan State and several other Power 5 schools are beginning to close in on Dashaun Mallory quickly.

I caught up with Dashaun Mallory at the 5th Annual Franklin Dodgeball Madness Tournament at Franklin Middle School in Wheaton. Proceeds from the tournament benefited the school, the DuPage Hundred Club, Team Red, White and Blue and The Pat Tillman Foundation. Watch the video above.

Biggest storyline: Can the Knights land a state playoff bid in 2017?

Names to watch this season: senior QB/DB Henry Light, junior WR/DB Jonathan Griffin

Biggest holes to fill: The Knights will need to reload on both the offensive and defensive line with just one starter back in senior Izaak Tanis (6-foot-2, 245 pounds).

EDGY's early take: The Knights bring back a nice core of returning starters this season and is a group with experience in the skills department. If Chicago Christian can get its line play to develop sooner, rather than later, they could find themselves battling for a state playoff spot in 2017.

Biggest storyline: Can the Knights make a return visit to the IHSA state playoff field?

Names to watch this season:  Senior QB Austin Martineau Senior WR/DB Bret Lila

Biggest holes to fill: The Knights will need to reload on the offensive line with just one starter back in senior OL/DL Ryan Bernstein.

EDGY's Early Take: Grayslake North had a strong year in 2016 and with 14 starters returning (6 offense 8 defense) look to be right back in the hunt both in the Northern Lake County conference and in Class 6A.The Knights however will have plenty of challenges since the Northern Lake County conference is shaping up to be strong again this fall.
