CSNChicago.com is your top destination on the road to the 2014 high school football season. CSN preps contributor “Edgy” Tim O’Halloran will take a look at 100 teams in 100 days, counting down to the opening-night kickoff on Aug. 29.

School: Marian Catholic

Head coach: Jerry Verde

Assistant Coaches: Mike Taylor, Mike Turay, Andy DeLaurentis, Nick Novak, Terry Barney, Dave Seneker, Josh Howe

Biggest storyline in 2014: Will youth be served in 2014? The Spartans are expected to have just 12 seniors on the roster in 2014.

Names to watch: Senior OL Vince Magana (6-foot-3, 290 pounds) will be asked to lead the Spartans offensive line while senior DB Jared Rogers (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) leads the defense this fall.

Biggest Hole To Fill: Marian Catholic will have open spots all over the field with just six starters back from a year ago. The sooner its talented underclassmen group can develop, the better for Marian Catholic.

EDGY's Early Take: Keep an eye on this program. Head coach Jerry Verde worked his magic at Crete-Monee and will eventually get this program to become a force in the South suburbs again. This might be a program a year or two away from a real breakout season.
