CSNChicago.com is your top destination on the road to the 2014 high school football season. CSN preps contributor “Edgy” Tim O’Halloran will take a look at 100 teams in 100 days, counting down to the opening night kickoff on August 29th.
Head coach: Mike Maloney
Assistant coaches: Sam Lesniak, Jon Murphy, Damon Malone, Steve Bell
Biggest storyline in 2014: Can the Skyhawks benefit from a new conference home in 2014? Johnsburg will leave the Fox Valley and rejoin the Big Northern conference after staying in the FVC for over a decade. Expectations are high that the Skyhawks should be at least able to better compete against similar sized schools in the Big Northern when compared to the FVC.
Names to watch: Junior to be OL/DL John Conroy is a mainstay for the Skyhawks on both sides of the ball. Also senior QB Nick Brengman will be a three-year starting quarterback for Johnsburg in 2014 and is also a key for the Skyhawks this fall.
Biggest hole to fill: Depth. The Skyhawks have experience on both sides of the ball but they are also not very deep at some key spots.
EDGY's early take: No question Johnsburg has a better chance at competing week in and week out in the Big Northern this fall. However, the Big Northern also might just be one of the best smaller enrollment sized conferences in the Northern part of the state and just getting 5 wins here will not be easy whatsoever.
