Biggest storyline in 2014: Can the Tigers get over the hump and into contention for a state playoff spot? Joliet West, along with Joliet Central have yet to make the state playoff field since separating from the combined Joliet Township sports program in 2010. Playing in the rugged Southwest Suburban Blue, along the likes of state powers Lincoln-Way East, Bolingbrook and Homewood-Flossmoor, hasn't made the path to the state playoffs any easier.
Name to watch: Senior offensive tackle Scott Blankenship (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) leads a Tigers offensive line that returns all five starters from a season ago.
Biggest hole to fill: Defensive secondary.
EDGY's early take: Joliet West could get off to a potentially strong start, but four straight conference games against Homewood-Flossmoor, Sandburg, Bolingbrook and Lincoln Way East will tell us a lot about the Tigers this fall. Survive that four-game run and they could challenge for a state playoff spot.
