CSNChicago.com is your top destination on the road to the 2014 high school football season. CSN preps contributor “Edgy” Tim O’Halloran spotlights one team per day in the CSN Preps Power Rankings, counting down to kickoff on August 29th.
No. 20 Waubonsie Valley
2013 record: 8-3 (5-1); finished second in the Upstate 8 Valley conference in 2013. Lost to Oswego 33-13 in the Class 8A second round of the playoffs.
Why did the Warriors make the CSN Preps Power Rankings? The Warriors welcome back 11 starters with 8 starters back on defense. Waubonsie Valley just seems to find an endless talent pool and was highly impressive in 7on7 and camp play this summer.
Areas of concern: The offensive line has just one starter back in junior Tyler Caldwell (6-foot-1, 230 pounds).
It will be a good season if: the offense can catch up with the defense. The Warriors offense will need to gain some game experience fast and this could easily become a team that will get better as the season progresses.
Headliners: Senior quarterback Zach Bennema (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) has a terrific overall game and could catch the eye of several college coaches this fall.
Biggest game: Duh. October 17th 7:30PM Waubonsie Valley vs Neuqua Valley at North Central College.
