CSNChicago.com is your top destination on the road to the 2014 high school football season. CSN preps contributor “Edgy” Tim O’Halloran spotlights one team per day in the CSN Preps Power Rankings, counting down to kickoff on August 29th.

2013 record: 12-1 (6-0); won the Northern Illinois Big 12 East conference in 2013. Lost to Montini Catholic 42-20 in the Class 5A semifinals.

Why Spartans made the CSN Preps Power Rankings: Without question, Sycamore lost some key names to graduation this past spring, yet all is not lost. Sycamore and head coach Joe Ryan welcomes back 31 seniors along with a deep and talented junior class.

Areas of concern: The Spartans will need to reload a bit on the defensive line with senior DT Devin Knight the lone returning starter from a year ago.

It will be a good season if: Sycamore can gain experience in a few key spot sooner rather than later in 2014. The Spartans have numbers and depth. Early non conference games again Lincoln-Way West and Crete-Monee should get this team ready for conference play and beyond.

Headliners: Sycamore senior running back Dion Hooker, along with senior outside linebacker Brett Weaver are both key leaders and play makers in 2014.

Biggest game in 2014: October 17th at 7 p.m. — Sycamore at Morris. See you there.
