School: Waubonsie Valley, Aurora
Head coach: Paul Murphy
Assistant coaches: Ron Griffin, Matt Murphy, Duane Butts, Ben Manzella, Tom Santoria, Brad Caldwell, Tom Baumgarnter, Chris Genslinger, Ken Anderson, Brent Kiger, Dave Gowing, Ryan Demar, Dan Schatzeder
2013 season results: 8-3 (5-1) Upstate 8 River
Biggest storyline in 2014: Can the Warriors get past you know who in 2014? You know who? If you're a Waubonsie Valley fan, you know exactly who I mean: conference- and crosstown-rival Neuqua Valley. If the Warriors can win the Battle of Route 59, it's a pretty good indicator that a deep postseason run could be ahead. The last time Waubonsie beat Neuqua? 2008.
Name to watch: Senior full back/defensive lineman Kurtis Chione (6-foot-2, 230 pounds)
Biggest hole to fill: The Warriors have just two starters returning on offense.
EDGY's early take: The defense looks to be a strength, while the offense will be a bit inexperienced. Yet Waubonsie Valley always has offensive skills. Keep an eye out for senior quarterback Zach Bennema (6-foot-4, 205 pounds), who could be a late bloomer/name to watch from a recruiting standpoint this summer and fall. If the Warriors defense can hold it down, especially early this fall, enough to allow the offense to develop, expect the Warriors to again be at the top of the Upstate 8 standings.
