At least Illinois head coach Tim Beckman didn't have to look very far to land his first verbal commitment from the Class of 2015.
Champaign Centennial junior three-star ranked quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) gave Illinois his verbal commitment Saturday afternoon at a Fighting Illini recruit junior day event.
"I just gave Coach (Tim) Beckman my verbal commitment," Fitzgerald said. "I'm just very excited to be a part of the program at Illinois. I knew that I wanted to commit today and I'm just very excited about my deacon and so is my family."
While the Class of 2014 has yet to sign their letters of intent, getting an early head start on the Class of 2015m and also landing an in town commitment from Fitzgerald is a terrific boost for the Fighting Illini.
Also, expect Fitzgerald to be an active recruiter for Illinois.
"I've been able to get to know a lot of the kids in this class already. I want to make sure they know that I want them to also choose Illinois and I'm going to try hard to make this a great recruiting class. I want the best in this class to make staying in state and p[laying for Illinois a factor and something they will really look hard at when they make their college choice."
