Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel approves of the Chicago Elite Classic.
On Saturday, the tournament was held at the University of Illinois-Chicago, which showcased several of the best basketball teams and players from around the country. While Whitney Young High School and Simeon Career Academy teamed up to form the Classic, Chicago-area stars such as Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander highlighted the day’s games.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel attended the inaugural Chicago Elite Classic and shared his thoughts on the groundbreaking event.
“I think you can see the energy and it’s great for the kids because of the competition,” Mayor Emanuel said. “They get to spread their wings beyond the kids they’ve been playing to really see themselves on a national stage.
“Last year we had the number one high school basketball player and this year we have the number one basketball player. But what I’m proud about with the Classics is that we show we are number one both on the court as well as in the classroom.”
