Once Notre Dame offered a scholarship to Montini Catholic 2014 linebacker Nile Sykes (6-foot-1, 219 pounds) in mid-November, it was for the most part a done deal.
Sykes ended his recruiting process Sunday, giving Notre Dame and head coach Brian Kelly his verbal commitment while on his weekend official visit to Notre Dame.
Sykes fist made his verbal commitment via Twitter.
I have officially committed to the University of Notre Dame !— AlmightySy (@Ninth__Cloud) December 15, 2013
Sykes also added via text message, "I think Notre Dame is an amazing opportunity to get a degree from Notre Dame, and so many doors also open up to you. From a football standpoint, it's big time football week in and week out. I'm just very excited about my opportunity. It feels awesome, and it's a lot of weight off my shoulders."
Sykes made an official visit to Syracuse last weekend and was considering the Orange along with Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and South Florida before pledging to Notre Dame on Sunday.
Sykes is ranked as a three-star recruit and the 18th-best inside linebacker in the nation according to Rivals.com.
