Wheaton South junior outside linebacker Tommy Vitale arrived in Evanston as just another recruit making a visit and left as the second known verbal commit for the Wildcats in the Class of 2015.
Vitale, the younger brother of Northwestern junior superback Dan Vitale, was offered a scholarship Saturday morning on his visit and pledged to the Wildcats later this afternoon.
"I was offered this morning and the more I saw and experienced at Northwestern the more I fell in love with the place," Vitale said. "I already felt very comfortable on campus and around the team. I just knew that once I gave it some thought this afternoon I was ready to make my decision."
So did Vitale's older brother, Dan, play a big part in his decision?
"Not really to be honest," he said. "He told me to make my own decision and never really influenced me at all. He wanted me to find a school that's the best fit and Northwestern is the best fit."
Vitale is the first in-state verbal pledge for the Widcats in the Class of 2015 and joins Houston Clear Lake linebacker Nathan Fox in giving Northwestern early verbal commitment.
