It's not easy being a competitive figure skater. It's even harder to compete at a high level when your last name is what you hope to achieve.

After placing second in the World Junior Championships in 2012, Springfield native Gracie Gold is a favorite to earn a spot on the 2014 Olympic figure skating team.

The 18-year-old recently switched coaches and moved to California to train with her new coach.

Earlier this year, she won the silver medal at nationals and placed sixth overall at the World Championships, her best finish yet.

Now she hopes to live up to her last name at the Sochi Games.

Be sure to catch "Quest for Gold 2014," a 30-minute special highlighting gold-medal hopefuls heading to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, airing at 7 p.m. on Dec. 25 on Comcast SportsNet.
