NBC Sports' Jack Doles joined David Kaplan on SportsTalk Live to talk about the most recent developments in Sochi, specifically Shani Davis' disappointment in the 1000.
The overwhelming favorite, Davis finished 8th in the 1,000-meter race after finishing 24th in the 500-meter race.
Doles said Davis' finish was "as big a shock as we had last night when Shaun White failed to three-peat in the halfpipe."
"Shani came in here clearly the No. 1 skater in this event," Doles said. "This is his marquee event, the 1000m. But he finished 8th, a very disappointing place for him."
Doles said an NBC reporter asked Davis about his disappointing finish, to which Davis replied, "There were just better skaters today."
As for White, who finished fourth in the halfpipe event, the 27-year-old says he is considering training for and competing in the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
"If he's still going to be one of the best snowboarders out there and if he's still going to be this marketable, what else does he do?" Doles asked. "I think if he would have won that Gold (in the 2014 halfpipe), I think he walks out a winner."
