Kris Bryant and Cubs put on a home run derby in the nation's capital on Friday

Didn't the Home Run Derby take place in Washington D.C. last summer? Because on Friday, the Cubs held a derby of their own in our nation's capital.

The Cubs absolutely teed off on Nationals pitching on Friday, slugging six home runs en route to a 14-6 win. Ironically, the Cubs scored their first run of the night on an RBI double from Javier Báez, only to score 11 of the next 13 on long balls.

Albert Almora Jr. got things started with a two-run blast off of Nationals ace Max Scherzer in the second inning.

Then, the Nationals bullpen happened.

Entering Friday's game, the Nationals' bullpen held a 6.20 ERA with 18 home runs allowed in 127 2/3 innings. They did nothing to help those numbers on Friday, allowing five home runs over the game's final three innings.

Kris Bryant got the party started in the seventh inning, hitting his ninth home run of the season deep into the night.

Bryant wasn't done there, though, as he hit his 10th and 11th home runs of the season in the eighth and ninth inning, respectively.

According to NBC Sports Chicago's Chris Kamka, Bryant is the first Cub to hit a home run in three-straight innings since Sammy Sosa did it on Aug. 10, 2002 against the Rockies in the third, fourth and fifth inning. He also extended his on-base streak to 26 games, an impressive feat that got buried in the news by the team's offensive outburst tonight.

Kyle Schwarber's home run also got buried amongst the rest of the offense, as he went yard in the eighth inning, too. Schwarber's home run came on the 13th pitch of his at-bat, winning the battle against Nationals reliever Kyle Barraclough.

To cap things off, Willson Contreras got in on the action in the ninth inning, driving a home run into right-center field to give the Cubs a 10-run cushion. Contreras now has 11 home runs this season, one more than he hit all of last season.

The Cubs scored 10 total runs against the Reds in a three-game series earlier this week. Poor weather played a small part in that, but if Friday's game is an indication of anything, its that the Cubs' offense is one formidable group.
