The Blackhawks recalled McNeill from the IceHogs on Monday morning. McNeill has 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 29 games with Rockford this season. The forward is also coming off a six-game point streak in which he recorded four goals and three assists from Jan. 12-Saturday.

McNeill is called up as the Blackhawks are also down a forward. Jiri Sekac, who was acquired last week from the Anaheim Ducks, is ill and did not make the trip to North Carolina. If McNeill plays on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, and it’s expected he will, he would be making his NHL debut.

If he plays, McNeill would also be the seventh player from the Blackhawks’ 2011 NHL Draft to play in at least one game for the Blackhawks (Phillip Danault, Adam Clendening, Brandon Saad, Michael Paliotta, Klas Dahlbeck and Andrew Shaw). That’s the most since the 2004 NHL Draft (Cam Barker, Dave Bolland, Bryan Bickell, Adam Berti, Jake Dowell, Petri Kontiola and Troy Brouwer.
