Gabriel says he's building trust, connection with Trubisky

Taylor Gabriel was signed by the Chicago Bears this offseason to bring much-needed speed and explosive ability to the passing game. His time in Atlanta proved he's capable of turning a short catch into a long touchdown in the blink of an eye, something he hopes to accomplish as one of Mitch Trubisky's top targets in 2018.

“Trust, building that trust with my quarterback, " Gabriel said Monday about his relationship with Trubisky, one that resulted in a perfectly thrown deep ball in practice. "For him to trust me on that deep ball and trust my speed, that’s what you like to see, and that’s what I like to see.”

Gabriel has twice averaged more than 16 1/2 yards per catch in his four seasons in the NFL, with his best year coming as a rookie with the Browns when he averaged over 17 yards per reception. His blazing speed and very good field vision are big reasons why, and they've both been on display lately in practice.

Most of Gabriel's success has come as a third receiver or top backup, which has resulted in his skill set often being overlooked. He's underrated, and it drives him.

“It keeps a chip on my shoulder," he said.

Gabriel's speed will be what gives the Bears offense an edge, but his ability to bring some of the Falcons' winning culture to Chicago's locker room is another added benefit of his addition.

“How many ways can you use speed? You can use it in all type of different ways. So it’s just exciting and with Nagy having Tyreek Hill, the things that he did with him, it’s very exciting.

I’m excited to get to the season. I keep saying I’m excited because I’m excited.”
