Sports Business Minute: New York loving Porzingis

Share

Rookie power forward Kristaps Porzingis has lit the NBA world on fire with his play early in the 2015-16 season.

The 7-foot-3 Latvian has become a fan favorite in averaging 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in 16 games.

It's helped the Knicks to a surprising 8-8 start after they won 17 games all season a year ago.

Porzingis is directly helping the Knicks, and he's also indirectly helping the sporting goods stores in New York City, as Rick Horrow explains in today's Sports Business Minute.

"The New York Knicks don't have to play well, but as long as Kristaps Porzingis plays well Modell's is happy. They stocked their 40 stores all over New York with the young Latvian's No. 6 jersey and his week series of sales far out-strips anyone since Linsanity," he said.
