Transcript
Hello everyone and welcome into the 2012 NFL draft preview -- -- -- and -- Joined by CSN Chicago dot com's Bears insider John moon Mullin. We will also bring in Bears PGL analyst and former Bears quarterback Tim Miller along the way well let's kick things off with a first two picks in the draft everyone knows in the Colts. Have now come out and said they will take injury luck in the top spot. Not much of a surprise there which means the Redskins are set -- Robert Griffin. The third at the number two spot the Vikings everyone's been talking about them. Taking -- clearly tackle from USC but also moved we've heard a little bit more and that may be the Vikings are sort of looking at some -- you think. Because we'll still going to be. I got number three you know -- I do think it will be but it's been fun to watch Rick's Dielman who I knew from Wednesday's here. It's -- it's over the last month he's actually put up a bit here and now he's saying and and I do believe that there -- just didn't end -- from LSU as a corner. But as almost is always throwing out more names to say you know you guys want them -- trade up and get him because he's been trying to trade out of that spot pick up. You know more picks and makes you wonder if he's -- some people and all the sudden -- come out that he said. More people are coming to him. Talking about getting that number three pick and you never know if that's true or not everybody -- -- out there -- -- -- -- that many more people gain interest it's I think yeah that's certainly something to watch out for the Vikings yeah and then the other talking about getting an extra wide receiver. Yeah maybe it maybe we'll think Blackmon took more crappy veteran every get him to do so yes it's it's this is the gamesmanship of of the draft or the ground single. At running back Trent Richardson while cornerback Morris Claiborne makes sense for the bucks. Wide receiver Justin Blackmon should land in Saint Louis and Jaguars seemed to have their choice of several players. And then he gets a little bit interest in in the eighth spot with Miami -- so let's bring in Bears PGL analyst and former Bears quarterback Jim Miller. And Jim do you think the Dolphins have seen enough to go -- grind can -- help you feel like that is gonna be the guy from Miami. Up a lot of them a hard time believing it because I don't think he's a top ten quarterback at all that you took out and played in -- stretch it. You know I talked to a lot of scouts and general manager think minimum. He's two years away. And it sounds like this -- more influenced by the owner and -- Ross that he isn't actually it would Israel could you just don't hear it from what I have heard. Then Mike Sherman is really jumping up and down on the table that NFL. Should either guy. So I think it almost is if any -- all past eight to Miami. It's going to be a lot of red flags for a lot of other teams and an -- -- all pretty hard I think wide receiver. Is that big I need for the Miami Dolphins slightly Michael Floyd. Could be an option that the number eight spot I wouldn't rule out quietly great. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And their replies yeah that is Marc Colombo is no longer there at the right tackle and I would think that is what shall open -- a joke -- coached at Iowa so he probably got more and more knowledge than anybody. You know what I'll Riley -- so those are two guys -- an -- -- not a choice of that they at that point and I -- to deploy -- Riley creek the offensive tackle. Pro pro model. Then Jimmy you know it's interesting you know you think. Go over the other yesterday said -- I estimate is a routine that you're watching and and they said. If there's a player that could drop periods -- team that could upset the draft is another as a player and it's funny you mentioned Ted hill because. He's the third best quarterback but that doesn't mean he's necessarily eighth. Top ten quarterback. And you know you see teams question -- we have a Jake Locker Christian Ponder. If teams feel like they've got to get that quarterback could you see him falling out of the first round if he doesn't go that high. Absolutely you know I think you know middle -- on -- late twenties. The very -- and immediately early in the second round they Cleveland today electorate and trade up. And get their quarterback what they contribute to treat your good difference like when you come -- Jake Locker looked at -- course Jake Locker won eight games. If you know what I mean like he had big fourth quarter comebacks as -- right -- his -- struggle. I mean yes -- -- really fourth quarter also a pregame stretch. Or he threw nine interceptions. And so that's all fine and great values he's typical for a prototypical and a full court Greg bigs got a strong arm. He can move the bottom line has changed plate more compositional wide receiver but he has quarterbacks owners -- not a lot of experience there. Wood right then they'll. I think Jim I'll hold tight we'll get back to you for your take on the Bears are just a little bit later. We'll run Rivera and the Panthers may go with the offensive tackle Pletcher -- that number nine. Followed by Buffalo Teddy Riley brief as their franchise left tackle to close out the top ten. And know here's a look at what you have for picks eleven through eighteen and why do you think Notre Dame product to Michael Floyd slipped to the bagels there at. Number seventeen. You know that's hard when for me actually -- because he is looking back at recent drafts. Receivers tend to go. In the top ten or then after 22 and there's only one receiver in the west have very drafts I believe and that was and Jeremy Maclin. Who went nineteenth. This is a guy who's who I think even could go as high seven to Jacksonville or or Miami. You know if he starts falling they elect Kennedy goes one of these guys that could really upset the draft or if he's a first round talent. -- under is a team and what that six we have six foot three -- guy go. And I see you know Cincinnati wanted to get somebody to help out an offense. -- they're trying to score on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens and you're -- you're not Purdue with a defense and I think Marvin Lewis you know that. I don't regime on their -- a little more firepower than the one thing people always forget all just because the guys rated and is the eighth or tenth player. We see guys slip every year because of what happens from in the top part of the draft since he never know especially with the receivers what will happen. Yeah you know it's funny the draft boards. Of the experts are not the ones that matter if I guess that I have been invited fill every into the must have been five boxing and into the mock draft -- on behalf group Pakistan to write that off. But I know that that's been big in the board as it unfolds reserve due to injury. Okay well now for the most important picture here in the -- see the Bears and GM Phil Emery. They will go nineteenth. In the draft -- you like Syracuse defense -- Ben Chandler Jones and what do you think makes sense for him at bats. But after the Bears they're committing personal overlooking the defense that is that's do you believe item -- the NB a tackle Warren and obviously. What I liked about him over some of the others -- just going by some things that Lovie Smith and and and due to -- you said. It's a big man's game what one thing that separates Jones he's he's been productive -- of the more seasoned guy you know what commercialism and the big number sixteen sacks. But it's a one year thing. Jones is 65 and a half -- and if you like that tall guy on the edge and I can see that's that's what -- -- looking for a pass rusher. The dependable kid they've had -- -- for this that they really like what they saw. -- and they've gone out and seen the other -- Perry's and they brought Melvin remember. These are a lot of 6162. Guys in and out there were put him in the -- design group the record but I don't want somebody you can get in golf so when it came down to pick. I'm going with the taller guy and I think that's true -- -- -- well let's bring back in Jim -- to debate and Jim you also have the Bears going defense but you think. Mississippi State defensive tackle Pletcher talks could be there for the taking. Yeah there were a lot like him because he's the most active defense that tackles well yes sure it's a possibility that he's gone. At that point but I still just think other players are ready to hire say like at the numbers that ninth spot Carolina's that you should -- offensive tackle. But you know when you look at -- we're very equal and a lot of hybrid defense. So you're looking for a true straight 43 defense to tackle. I think she fits the players perfectly. And I got albeit a picks got ahead of good players just from the other teams that I talked to -- general managers like good example -- -- the former general manager watched Redskins. He critics this year there will be more defense of rapid thoughts that than any other year. And think about Fletcher Kyle actually when he came out Connecticut -- human graded it like a second rounder. And I think he's done -- welcome move up the boards but I don't think she's a top ten player what everybody thinks about I think they have other players rated higher. Don't Fletcher Cox -- it would be a steal the people for the players where they select a nineteen. My thanks again Jim we will check out your reaction to the NFL draft all week and CSN Chicago dot com. Now moving past the Bears and deeper into the last half of the first round. -- you have the Lions selecting Boise State running back Doug Martin -- job the best of course returning from injury McKellen surest. Off the field. And troubles -- this was a hard when -- know they're not easy when you get deep into the draft. But they they're good they committed the offense they've they've been taking care of the defensive front with -- and -- -- payroll and they vanden Bosch. If they -- they really need a cornerback. But you -- with the problems that had a running back. The fact that you -- with a short last year it tells me that this is a priority position for them and that was it was between corner and end. And -- -- and I really thought that this from what I've heard other Detroit. They like him and they they wanna make sure they have a good running back. And the Packers will pick at 28 you think -- will take another Boise State product in shame McLellan we'll see if that happens if so. Maybe a million that you have all the answers we'll pool -- you but the the our whole -- as always that they experience that will be sure to check out your draft coverage on CSN Chicago dot com fortune Noah and John Mamola.
