We are not join the box by Cubs starter Matt Garza and Matt let's talk about how things have gone for you so far you were shut down back in July. I think you told me last night -- today was going to be throwing day. Cub nation lets -- know how Matt Garza feels considering your DH since that. All of -- amendment saying oh well go out of the ITC and two to a bunch of lot of change yes and there's a lot of good work this. You know not done so. In the middle Warrick that there have noted that very. How do you feel about the state of the team I know you are very active on Twitter and when you thought that -- Sanchez was coming in. You thought we had other deals made that you lucked -- having -- -- they knew what welcome to Chicago and then they don't work out. Edwin Jackson's a guy I think you talked to before he made his decision about gay baseball take us inside that a whole process and how you feel about your team. I mean I think. Our. And I've been a great talent and history. -- you know we. He want to cut down sent passers in the game and who got guys did you know we Brandon. Brandon. Competitors and the -- And now we -- -- to -- -- but the year and you know as. Having you know low walk totals. You know against -- And then you have nobody went in over welcome baker went for it and would live seven. You know we get so -- that I know it's we had a great great deal. So I had a pretty exciting -- island. It is also the last couple rotation so. But Leighton did and it's summer up. -- into it could be an outstanding summer from a pitching perspective when you talked Edwin Jackson and he says to you. Oh yeah I've never played all day baseball or a large number of day games. Your Family Guy it worked out well for you what did you tell him about eight playing at Wrigley and be playing a lot of day baseball. I suppose you know this kind of Saints during training just. 21 week or so in the mirror it. You know hard because it's going to be -- indeed and -- and forty and it's very and then you -- -- in the thirties so. I can't -- but besides that it's. Is he getting all of these kids and have a great dinner and Jim -- and sophomoric. In any yes it is aren't worried about it held the pole by their body -- a -- and not. -- everywhere out. As you know he did manage it and do rather than he's figured it out and you know I don't know our -- of he has little boy and I know he's a pretty pumped about that is that to get info. Glad he's scientists. Now when you look back on last July they were all these rumors that you were gonna get traded and then you get the elbow stress reaction problem. And now it looks like the Cubs had decided rather than. Just bringing in prospects they want not signed a number of veteran guys does that encourage you. Not only for the team but for your future long term in Chicago. Yeah Britain and the full time on the and and said that in my immediate. In. The -- way more than it's trying to get ahead and in the end of the top and it came in the big -- -- Palestinian. Right down and taking those colors patient. And that they haven't really displayed in my career highlight so. I think right now patience is a big game for me in looking past you know tomorrow's. And it. It's. -- -- -- -- -- -- It's trying to get ready for a bit. You know I'm not too worried about being in the game ready you know that's my guess stay patient. You had told me when I interviewed you last summer you said that your wife had a large impact on your career when you had a bad start one day. You were a little piece that you lost your -- she said. I didn't -- lot pitched poorly today your kids didn't you did so it sounds like. Did she made a large impact in your approach and did she have something to do with. Maybe getting you to focus more on patients as well this offseason as you went through what you said was the toughest part of your career this injury. Yes you know -- you know -- -- allowed. It was supporters realize. You know my creationism in those -- after -- got here. You know. It's a long road for vocalist and a and I lover's death urgency and she continued gaining. In Laredo weren't looking at a life in. Brett. Fourth child and it. It's another little girl. You know. We're excited and and also pump -- a lot differently and a lot here I had to learn patience and being alive and you know do my. United had its -- and then. You know shoot in a -- -- season. You know actually done a -- happened that I did that's kind of where I get the so they can do is kick in the everything down and talk. Be patient and and just focus on being patient is he -- particular itself. Looking at the Cubs future what do you see in Anthony Rizzo Jeff some -- Darwin Barney starling Castro. Do you look at it and say you know what they've got an exceptionally bright future because of these young kids. Com. Yeah. They're exciting they're you know they're excited there in years -- nationality can do and you know he got a big huge sense of what about two guys and you know now that that change nearly pulled -- some guys. It's -- media war it's going to be even more exciting years so I -- so I'm excited that. -- on their. I hadn't spoke something patients taking it slow you down. Last two I have for you one. If you look at this team right now and you spring training started today is Matt Garza healthy enough -- spring training started today. The Cubs -- is can he picks right up could you go to spring training to be ready to go. Are stranger and my acted I would build both featuring game -- you know I would I'd -- in -- where it would appear. You know outside the game sheet that we get ready for entry training -- interest in Marty. And the game ready you're all expecting to be writing all putting that. -- is. And so it's that he doesn't patient and I have three more months opening day and I don't know much about it and -- and focus on being patient. It's gonna take care of itself. I'd rather than patience setting New Year's resolutions and Garza household. Mark Martin is. Being patient with each other and being patient for kids. Yeah it's kind of mind that's kind of minute game. It has been patient you know do my work in particular days it doesn't let. Also don't try to Wear aggression that in the -- sitting back in and and you know I can take care of itself. We appreciate taken time for -- happy healthy new year to you congrats on. The newest member of the guards -- family and I will see you in Mesa, Arizona. See it and figured things badly and you've got all the bats left.
