Boden & Miller: Missed opportunities sink Bears' season
Transcript
There is getting knocked out of the playoffs in the final seconds up the Minnesota in -- you look back on so many missed opportunities. Did not control out of the -- hands the fourth and three Seattle -- in the late going. And not being able to deliver the knockout punch against the Vikings three weeks ago wearing your mind -- the season go wrong yet to -- -- -- -- really was a three week stretch and started with Seattle which was a very winnable game at home especially it's a team. There really wasn't shown to be powerful offensively so. That one probably to me hurt the most and then Minnesota and then of course a loss to Green Bay which the Bears fought hard but I think again a very winnable game for me it was injuries. On you look at Tim Jennings when he went out defensively you look at offensively with the offensive line had to go through with a three week period with offensive lineman. So to me I think again at the points to depth. Henson to injuries at critical points in the season. Where the Bears season started zero and that dovetails into the future now and obviously the big -- answer is the offensive line but. Where should Phil Emery use his priorities here and making roster changes I I think it's definitely on the offensive line and certainly wanna get more depth defensively -- mean. The big question mark is looming. That to me has got to be Brian Urlacher do you need to draft the middle backer position deeply believe it's Nick Roach. Are moving forward. But I think on the offensive side the ball to get it about up to us now parallel to what the defense says it's gotta start up front it's got to start with the offensive line. And then continue to add pieces. That depth wise I think at the wide receiver position so I think Al's son Jeffrey will be a stud. But can they count on Earl Bennett moving -- he's been hurt two years in a row may -- they have to draft another slot receiver you brought the big name Brian Urlacher is is so much identified as a Chicago bear. What do you think happens with him and the other questions involved. Devin Hester another long time star there. And Jay color heading into the final year of his contract I think let's start with the quarterback -- -- the most important position. Let him play it out Jay Cutler has been often injured over the past couple years and his injury history is starting tomorrow. Let him play it out you probably offer him a contract mid season of these 7UP a solid year Devin Hester. Again they don't have to pay them a lot of money I think he's only 3.4 on the books they may approach him to take a pay cut. But really has escalators are involved in his wide receiver production and that hasn't been there the past couple years. Brian Urlacher I think. One he's probably did that one of the greatest if not the greatest middle linebacker that has ever played in Bears history. He don't want no insult Brian Urlacher I think you put an offer on the table and if it's something that Brian Urlacher is -- willing to accept. Then he can probably make his own decision whether he wants to finish out his career isn't as a bear. Or elect to retire or he wants to continue to play football another team. Make him an opportunity but I think he's earned that he deserves that it's not gonna be an offer that insults them. But gives him that option to retire as part one of the greatest Chicago Bears and have ever played in the end leaning on the archrival. Jumped up and get the Bears they're looking for Green -- to win their thirteenth straight game within the division thirteen. In fact turn out to be very unlucky for the Bears the final day of the season for Jim Miller I'm Chris Phillips.
