How important is a guy that you feel. Will fit in with the guys who already have -- -- It's it's hugely important but it's not a determining factor in the end in that town is gonna carry the day. At that point that out because. -- needed a real nice job from day one sort of setting post on the we're not gonna hold against. Guys perceived reputation issues. We didn't charge or amateur scouts professional scouts -- the minors. The big leagues. To get to know as much as they can't player's character make up and how to handle pressure comic and played in the big market like Chicago. And that is part of their reports -- this -- get. To the pressures that come play in the big market. But then every so often you get a guy like Bobby Jenks as oh you hit ease the -- HA. You think he's that interest and if you want the league's top. -- insurance here in the area. He's you know he's our scouts go real deep on this. High -- -- It. But I. And -- each of those cases and there's and there's been others that talent. It was enough that we are willing to have a conversation directly -- player on day one even sometimes where -- at. -- it's what's on the news that's the word on the street is on. Hear what the issues are procedures like despite your talent were able to get you Bobby's case for 20000 dollars. In AJ gets non tenders might be. We're given -- care about any of that. We're gonna go ahead and move forward with you giving you information telling you we expect review and if you can comply with it and -- wonderful even I. Last years to come into this and any question I would answer. You know there there was still a little bit the end no. It went you know I I could answer the question. Having been through before they're there's no question marks too so now having gone through years where. A lot of stuff happen I mean as far as for me. -- you know personal things thirteen. To injuries. Into the season. Him being a pennant race. Go to that is an offseason -- now I know everybody. It is different however. Even going through all that they -- it's like being a player where you just start all. Over again so it it's back to the simple things that -- the same as last year so for me going in the spring training. It's getting back to the simple things all over and then. Everyone's talked about in the last year but for me for us to get back to that point there's a whole lot of worked my ass bill when you get us back to that point and I I can't. I don't want the players looking too far ahead and I'm not gonna do -- Either we go to spring training this year and take a look at. What you have. What single or two things jump out view as the strength of this ball club what do things that you feel consistently going to be there and it elitists. I think pitching. Again that was one of. Our main concerns going in the offseason. I still feel we got. We're lucky to get Jake back that's one of those that we're going into the offseason when -- strong. With pitching -- with the depth of our pitching. And I think Rick Rick's dress that is for hours going through their starters. We get John back. And yet lynch we took it to the mix them in the bullpen so for me that that's. Those strengths you have to happen and that's that's number. To review the catch and I think for us help our pitchers. Always believed in this and I don't know -- -- it doesn't. -- true is -- the defense helps you win. And that you know I think the other strengths are our guys play well together it's one of those they enjoy comfortable or. They're professionals. They understand. After Ellis for me one of the biggest things last years I never. Felt I had to push for effort you know it was there we might not wanna game. -- the year -- -- -- did it there was never. -- -- -- That's a question about player evaluation. What if anything can you do to predict how quickly a player's skills decline we have a couple players. We're having -- some of the best years in their mid thirties. So he's tickled Tom. What you can do to determine. On if you can't determine how a particular player we'll. Still -- -- it's certainly more art than science and -- you look at the traditional. Aging curve or directory players tend -- average player. Tends to peak around age 2728. That's plateau probably till the early thirties and the decline begins in the early to mid thirty's but as you point out you know we've seen players on this club. Have career years at age 35. So you have to be cognizant of that traditional. -- the same time it looked at the individual's body type of conditioning what they do to take care of themselves. Power guys know the order guys -- age different curve and speed it's more you know. Skill oriented guys do -- you -- tailored to individual you can certainly. You can always find reasons not like it's. And as they get older it -- he's not like them as they're getting older. We try to be a little more in tune with the individual and making that evaluation and sometimes you get it right you. The have a guy have a career year deep into his thirties and sometimes he gets a little wrong to keep guys here too too long. Obviously he'll he'll say you're better off. Move the guy you're too early you're too late because he can't get yourself into trouble and that guy do well in his decline years but knock on -- so far been all right point. Watching another team celebrated the end of the season and in terms of like everything you said we -- easily through -- we're not trying to get second place for not trying to win. 83 games and missed the playoffs it's. It's you know -- that at times it's time. On the contrary to popular it's not easy to -- you know. Might think it's easy but it's really. Easy in the you know that's why it's a 162 game that's why you play. You know I played for sixteen years it wasn't easy it was never easy and you're never happy. Not making the playoffs and you know we're just at this point as anybody else but. Again I'm. There's another season I have to prepare for that and make -- did not just in baseball but anything else anytime you're. You gotta get back up and go I'm not gonna quit. I'm not -- so I'm getting everybody ready to be ready to to win this year. Not worry about just bombed.
