And the NBA's trade deadline hit it 2 PM central time not surprisingly the Bulls did not make a move. Let's welcoming Comcast sports that's NBA insider acute care -- we see here at a baseball field what's going on over there. Yeah I'm doing my radio show down here from the days. Phoenix Municipal Stadium this week covering both the Giants in the days as a as a radio host in between taking care of everything that's gone on in the NBA in the NBA trade that on -- -- a close side and the fall and obviously the biggest name in play in the final hours was Josh Smith. He becomes a free agent this summer I know a number of teams were interested in trying to acquire him. Atlanta doesn't want to Max him out this summer so wide in the deal get done. It looked as if the deal was done if you asked the Milwaukee Bucks that -- say they would tell you that they did have a deal done. Apparently at the last minute or so the Atlanta Hawks tried to squeeze something more out of the box to make the deal happen and when the -- said no. The Hawks pulled out of it they were supposed to send Luke Rashard a -- today. Ekpe Udoh -- Utrecht in a protected first round pick to the Hawks forward Josh Smith. When that didn't happen they turned around and made and got another deal with Orlando but the first deal in place. Was to get Josh Smith's and out remains to be seen whether the the Hawks can. Get more than. -- which seems to be a number of decent building blocks. That they can get more of that for. Josh Smith this summer before it becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Rick those names that Milwaukee were offering were too hard pronounce that -- that's why Atlanta pulled out. But you know after deciding not to pay the price I. I I agree with you got a question about the Bucs did get some business done. It worked out a six player trade with the magic they bring JJ Redick to Milwaukee how much is that deal helped the Bucs playoff prospects. I it does bolster them for sure with JJ Redick they they could use some improved three point shooting. To stop -- eye on is another guy in the deal that comes to Milwaukee he's a young. -- physical big man so they are an improved team as far as the playoff picture is concerned there's no question about it. Indiana did not trade Danny Granger in my opinion they look like the top challenger to Miami in the east right now. What are your thoughts on their style of play under Frank Vogel and are they a legitimate threat to Miami in about. The seven playoff series. If you want it to compose of teams that would be able to beat the Miami Heat. The Indiana Pacers have everything that you you would want they have the athletic schism. To keep Miami from getting out in a half court. And they have the size. To be able to beat Miami if they can slow the pace down so the big question is going to be. Just how much is their lack of playoff experience their experience and going. Deep into the playoffs because ideally. They would be seeing the Miami Heat. In the at the very least the second round of perhaps the Eastern Conference championship. And so the question is are they capable of taking advantage of all those pieces and out executing the Miami Heat. Playing that deep into the playoffs. Rick do you think that Danny Ainge and the Celtics might have made a mistake by not trading some of their veterans to jump start the rebuilding plan. Absolutely but they should have done it two years. Is not enough but in the eyes of -- the so Boston Celtics fans to be able to put them right back on the map as title contenders. This smacks a little bit of when they hung on to Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and Robert Parish. A little too long and they ended up having to go through a long and painful rebuilding process unfortunately. As loyal as those guys have been as a big a part as they've been in as as well loved as they are by the Boston Celtics fans. Any GM will tell you the best deal is made when you send a guy one year early because you rather do that than sending in one year late. -- I gotta ask about the Bulls it seems like their biding their time until the summer of fourteen when they might have some cap room available. That's the probably amnesty Carlos Boozer in -- -- things contract expires. The big games in that class LeBron. Yet well they're still the possibility they could make a deal between now and then. To pick up. One superstar and that's really when you look at what Derrick Rose is capable love. And you look at Tom Thibodeau its ability. To utilized complementary players and get the most out of them that's really what they needed what's going to be interesting is to see who is available. We saw at the trade deadline the reason you didn't seem big names moving their big deals made is the fact that everybody's looking -- down a lot of that super luxury tax. Well there are teams out there that have quality players that may be willing. To move them along simply to get out of the tax. That could be the opportunity for the Bulls. To acquire the type of all star player to put the -- decide Derrick Rose that makes them a bottom by title contender. Finally one thought on the west Oklahoma City has struggled a bit recently they lost to James Harden and the Rockets last night Harden poured in 46 points. Is the west more wide open than ever as we head towards the playoffs. It would appear so but I still believe that the Oklahoma City Thunder once they get back. Two of the playoff mode once they get to the post season. There will see them finding themselves once again it's the San Antonio Spurs have the best record in the league. But they've demonstrated over the last few that they can be very capable during the regular season. And still falter the Oklahoma City Thunder are still the team to beat. The big question is going to be Serge Ibaka. And he stepped up and be that third meal. If it comes to another matchup against the Miami Heat or any of the other big men and he'd be the best big man on the floor. That to me is going to be the linchpin. To weather the Oklahoma City Thunder can do the one thing that they haven't been able to do so far and that's win an NBA championship.
