Transcript
What is it like being Jonathan Toews just go about your normal day. Go get something to eat going to get your dry cleaning what is it like to be you in this town. I mean that's it's changed a lot over my guess is my sixth season very -- very craziest thing that. It's gone by -- act quickly and and you know who wasn't so. News very different my first couple seasons latest the first season when game story on TV and and you know he talked on the streets and normally you don't know who the Blackhawks players were. You know how the team was doing and you know all stars Chaney read the winter classic at Wrigley in and then we won the cup hereafter and and just you know it's been on the up and ups and so it's pretty special this streak. I'm sure hockey friends or or -- watch Rocky -- the Hawks so. You never want to hold on defense but third to come -- we have this year. You know hopefully were were. Journal and it came -- for what they missed you know in the fall. You Ewing came early in your career you guys were all over the place to a promotional stuff I mean for the first two or three years maybe. -- -- -- that had to wonder -- tiring and to -- you know -- did you have to say we need to cut back on this a little bit. Yeah I guess a little bit sometimes. There's times in the season or you have to be focusing on hockey team carry yourself and Ramirez -- -- those two other -- doing our stuff and and I'm saying our restaurant and things are fairly strong convention in the summer. Which is always been a huge hit so. Even lower or or we're getting that support we restore give back a little bit and then I'm fine overspend for our fans. Does anyone reached out to you may be whether it's Wayne Gretzky Michael Jordan somebody from the NFL this is look out when I played. We had a streak similar to what you're doing and Paul Konerko says what you guys have done to this point. Is better than them going eleven -- route to a World Series. Has any athlete said to you appreciated because it's gonna be gone like that you may never have it again. No one's. Saying failing that to me but I I think you can kind of think of it like that that's. We are against some breaks -- known and you can't. It's very difficult to make it this far and have a -- coldest along with with both you know -- a few lucky goals are few rounds going or wherever and for the most part. Where were -- whatever success -- working harder than great goaltending. Were killing penalties -- on par prison better than last year and -- You know it's easy frame -- three or 45 game win streak in. And you know -- one night in and you're not feeling -- you don't have your legs like you normally might have been. And it Osama lost because pretty acceptable when we haven't said that all we've been. As hungry to win in every single game is as the last one in and we wanna continue where I think that's that's a huge quality to have as a team. You know Johnson because of one and every imaginable way. And again the other night either coming so fast I can't remember which -- that are three fights and you know for people who watch hockey it's still. And watch other sports it's still strange. To see two guys drop the gloves have the refereeing is around watching. The players beating on the side with there sticks it two guys are going to -- a amid the lead. They may say is just a hockey fight as the fight. There -- three of them I know you guys you know that's the hockey kind of rules and hockey way. You got in a fight -- that desired we were joking beforehand you know get a nice shiner under. But I know with a little -- your teammates. He can explain the culture of fighting in hockey. -- -- -- This is the way I know hockey Soriano I grew to know the name in and when you do put it like that when you looked if not perspective that two resonance or wrong kind of steps away and they'd go -- -- for you know 1540 seconds it is kind of a weird thing -- I'm sure there's other things other sports that you wonder why is it right and it's a story isn't hockey and brought a few puncture. Wanna see more fights and -- on the other end of the spectrum where people. I don't wanna she's gone so it's been part of the game for a long time and I'm to a certain degree there's a reason why it's -- changes if you stop part of what would change and I mean it. You can debate this all day but you see a lot of situations where you know in in the new NHL were fighting has gone down in there is a lot of guys run around -- cheap shots in the biggest thing Moscow over here has been head shots. And how some of these guys can do what they do and get away with it worth the NCAA instigator rule on. The whatnot so I mean. Not gonna sit here and can give you my stance on talk world they have it but that's that's the debate that are fighting kind of takes care through certain point that. Guys have to answer the Dolphin -- some stupid to -- one of our viewers. And question from FaceBook -- easy -- Jonathan besides winning the cup in 2010 would this streak be the most exciting a fun time you've had as a player. Yeah I guess is a few moments that car stand up there as the most success and been very lucky arms who won the Stanley Cup but. During the regular season. It's this kind of a steady. Said he ongoing thing or nothing really seems to stand out that much and in. A lot of people talked were certain things that stood out to us as a team in 2010 and then maybe why why we won the Stanley Cup and I think this year and this whole streak thing could be that that feeling gives the conference that that we need to believe in ourselves that. Are worth every team that we have a potential on and it is an exciting thing but we know if we don't use this conference for some greater a concern in the post season that people are gonna forget about what happened in the service he's a pretty quickly. When John McDonough comes Danny Briggs. The day before that's announce that they're coming over. That this you're gonna walk around Chicago and you will not be able to go pick up a pizza go get your dry cleaning your rock star your -- security around you. Would you -- you're insane. Yeah. Pretty much capped a perfect but this is the big that it that the record is fabulous what you guys who represented is terrific but this is the big. Changed to me they'd be. You know in the glory days of -- homestand -- across the street at the stadium and couldn't get a ticket the fans loved the product. They didn't love the organization. That's that is the big -- wanted to have you guys feel like I. That's your business but I there's a connection now the fans know that winning matters to this organization. And they know that they matter and then has never been the case. With the Blackhawks. And that is to see that's the sea change. I mean I believe that if a fan. I bumped into John McDonough tomorrow night injured and Mr. President I don't like the way in my hot dog this cook. John would launch an investigation. Mean that's the way they've connected. With the fans and that's you know we know that -- team that didn't used to televise home games is not televising home practices. But I do it's it's it's a connection in that I'm not sure exists without any other organization. In this town. What is it like you have guys playing around the league who say to you. OK Jonathan what is it like playing there because I know it's like we're on that and it's not like that. It's and it's still -- sure the guys that that come here and play for a team and the Kimberly how well we're treated as players and you know -- but I agree wholeheartedly with with football says I mean not only do they treat us players is. You know just. It's first class all the way everything from a week before -- after practice and how we travel and all those little things that that really got out sometime we cancer cells complain about some were decided. We're adamantly Pluto were pretty spoiled here we got a pretty good. -- I think you see you definitely see. How this organization gives back true to their fans and and I goes a long way in. You know and I think there's a debt of gratitude their first in the fans bring to us through and that's understood for sure. Jackie -- shout out to Rocky words I think that to me. He has changed the culture by hiring John McDonough Reggie Brown call these people for -- I know that he gave. 30000 dollar rings to all the employees he paid them all during the lockout. You know it's had to say but it is took you know his father died and Rocky took over. Everything changed I mean do you feel his presence to him and his sense of understanding what Chicago was all about. Absolutely I mean I said this before also that that. You know are a lot of people. Or maybe weren't too happy with some of the comments I made sure in the locker and I think when I was mostly trying to express is that. I see everything the Hawks do and what they do around this city and and how much they invest in our fans and our hockey team that's if there there. Very very intelligent the way they do things you you invest in tour and you get something back and have great fans are gonna have a successful hockey team and that's where my frustration was coming from is that many children didn't quite go with the same attitude at the time but. You know. All the things -- done since she's she's been our owners and been incredible summer we've had some good hockey teams birth he's been compared to put that teaming other single year. -- before we let you go. If you guys are fortunate enough to play well let me get to Stanley Cup finals. Would you like it to be against an original sixteen you don't care who you play -- to be cool Boston's not the best record there. You have the best record overall would you like to play a team like that. Doesn't matter what team we play against as long as we get there -- -- care you can. Write that story anywhere you want to gloves were champions at the end I think that's the the happy ending or looking for.
