If it was anyone else other than that Kansas. I -- Kasey Kahne would have battle -- -- there's a savvy veteran driver like Kansas. On a new team -- Joseph Gibbs racing in. What I loved about this move is he and his crew chief made the gutsy call on that final puts up with 31 to go not to take any tires most teams took two tires. Fresh tires usually translates in the faster speeds -- -- decided we're not gonna AFC's new crew chief he brought that up to him to make the call. Anyway it was a gutsy move reluctantly retired any help them often. And he did a masterful job although Casey think -- Kasey Kahne had the fresher tires and the better cars. It is usually pretty reserved after the race but boy he was court vocal about his win the other day he really is -- mean he felt a lot of pressure and he admitted there's going to a new team he said Joseph Gibbs he's got a lot of respect for the former NFL coach. He said he hired me coming here and win races and anytime you make that transition new team new crew chief and spotter new dynamic -- chemistry. You never know how long that's gonna take to -- up but here we are third race into the season and he already is paying dividends for Joseph Gibbs racing. What do you -- about one of my favorite drivers and that's just -- -- Gordon. Obviously he was on top for awhile I think he's 4041. Now if I'm not mistaken so it's certainly not over the hill but he's been surpassed by a bunch of other drivers. Can he get back on top because it's not at that his abilities -- gone down I'm sure that his car does isn't as good as some of the other guys can get that concept. I think he can mean he's -- point one of the legends in the sport. You know he's in terrific equipment and I can get any better equipment Henry candor is gonna provide you with Hendrick Motorsports and their engine program. But finish check free teammates a lot of support and they're sharing information that's one of the benefits of these multi car teams sharing information -- Jimmie Johnson Dale Earnhardt junior. But it's an interesting question as you get older you know does that reaction time behind the wheel just threw down a little bit. And you know the more episodes you've had -- -- that -- does that make you think twice a little bit before you're going full throttle -- into the as -- also. In -- this is an -- interesting year for -- he's certainly had success in recent years making their chase. But he's given his past success he's not comfortable unless he's competing for championships and winning championships so -- kind of a tipping point this here for Jeff Gordon. Let me ask you -- -- really stupid question and I'm -- with no question. You know you talk about you had the fastest car you talk about the they chose not to get tires are -- -- -- and afford to think it's -- gas gauge thing. How much of a difference is the driver really make if you took the fortieth best point guy and you put MET seeking scarred as you win that race. You know we we've we've had conversations that offline over the years -- -- You know there's a lot of factors that go into -- kind of determining success not success. Certainly these drivers have gotten a lot more savvy on nutrition regiments differ there crew Chiefs in -- -- she's either pit crews and things like that. Horsepower you know 12. You know degrees -- horsepower and it makes -- difference doesn't yeah it certainly equipment -- these multi car teams have the edge. But but the driver -- does come into play I mean -- you see a new guy like Brad Kozlowski come onto the -- out 26 years old. He's bold he's just see he's got that fire he's got that competitive edge. Jimmie Johnson so I do think the driver peace please annulment and then there. The word in the garage mark is -- these new cars these -- six cars are putting the emphasis back on the drivers now because. The intent with those is to create less downforce. Makes the course a little bit harder to handle. That puts the onus back on the drivers to compete so what -- that's a question it could go so many different factors go into determining success. In NASCAR these things. All right let's -- -- Denny Hamlin he gets 25000 dollar fine and he says to NASCAR good luck elected and I'm not paying it. What happens well. He's got ten days from the time the fine is issued to appeal it. And I think that I think he's on the clock ten days from last Thursday. Has not -- today so we'll see. -- doesn't appeal it just says I'm not pay that good luck -- well if he -- they think could be suspended or NASCAR another option is they could just withhold the money from his next. -- out for a raise prize money so that that can be an optional just withhold that pays him. NASCAR afraid that by trying to quiet him he was just answered a question honestly. That they're making -- that they're -- upset the fans by treating them like they're stupid amid the fans remember the old -- the -- what was that the car of tomorrow addicted it was awful and now he's answered a question about a new car granted it's only a couple races and what -- Jan -- but the fans know the difference -- the fans are able to see if a guy's being honest or just rip and somebody for the sake of ripping it. They're great question right in the fans' sentiment has clearly been on Denny Hamlin side of the last several days he's gotten overwhelming support and an and I don't know that anyone's necessarily looking to censure any driver but I think -- in this is my opinion I think what NASCAR was disappointed with his affected. He went on record with me. You know what what you perceive to be they perceive being negative comments about this new car only to reach in the season I think NASCAR. To their credit you know they collaborated with the drivers in the offseason solicited their input help them to inform the design and engineering around this new -- six car. And they give it openly admitted it's a work in progress we're gonna tweak it grew over the seasons so I think that's where they were disappointed felt like he was making comments derogatory to the sport but clearly fans' sentiments underneath him and. Bristol. We go to Bristol this week what type of race do you expect out of this and then. We've got -- it's bumper cars its trade and trade paint all of that. What do you expect out of this race I think it's going to be typical Bristol and if you see periods you're gonna see tempers flaring. You may see some helmets flying these midseason. Angry drivers in post race garage interviews but. It's the track is so fast and so small so inevitably contact this can happen. And when you go in the speeds you know for 34 hours that I always -- Kidd hit a 140 degree temperatures. You know that that's just a recipe for a lot of temperament so. I think you're gonna see it to the Clippers racist is the first short track race of the -- and I think you're gonna see that the bump and grind and that we come to expect congress over the years. Davis Payne detract from there her fans -- like the new track surface they went back and repay you so this is the -- -- tonight. We need to make our picks I've got the lead on you exclusive club of the Colts. It's not big PS not a big margin you've 7673. Took okay that you get to go first I'm -- -- with Kyle Busch. He's been running well all season just a series of bad luck. Had a blown engine one race spin out of another race so. I think inning published love short track racing I think he's gonna take the checkered flag on center quality guy who's got the best -- seems he's really had great speech. -- take Kasey Kahne and stuff like that certainly a great pick for last weekend so much good luck to four points that's not not too much to overcome we'll see what happens.
