The SportsTalk Live panel discusses the Bulls' recent struggles and if it's influencing a possible return by Derrick Rose - 3/14
Forget the Derrick Rose situation when we are missing games then your miss and kinda rate your -- and all these players that. There's only so many guys and NBA roster got fifteen guys twelve are active I mean if you're missing a lot of your top players you shouldn't lose by forty points bought. It's gonna be hard to win games -- -- missing so many players this late here -- you guys are worn down number one of the guys you. Have art are very good as you don't -- These losses have piling up our each one worse than the next and the next thing that there's. There's a message going on here and it and just amazes me to hear him say I got to push and even harder I got to push me even harder. And maybe you know maybe now is the time to let your foot off the brake a little bit in all of these guys obviously. Aren't responding lie I had it done. Lately first quarter was still a relatively close in that I didn't turn back on until. Late in the third quarter and -- veterans on the charts -- and -- between what why is Joakim Noah still in the game when it's a forty point game you know wire Boozer why are -- Dayne in there. I went back and look at the box score and inning grand the highest minutes number was 34 which isn't bad overall bullets a forty point game at that point why isn't he glad those guys. This Derrick Rose even wanna return to a team like this. You for a guy who's talking about how has taken over mental hurdles to come back to a team that just coming out of blowout loss like that. It was with other injuries it's a lot of it's more pressure to put on his shoulders as he's going to be the savior can he prevent forty point blowout losses in street kid. They -- come -- -- better but this is a team that has a lot of injuries that I just like you said Jason. There's a lot of issues in getting back to the the pushing part by him Thibodeau how far can you push these guys for some of these guys are tuning you out and you know don't want to hear what you have to. To sit out that's that's where is there is very tune out danger here absolutely. When Derek sees what's going on here. That does that Alter his thinking and. I I think so here's a -- That aspect about Derrick -- returning is that we've all talked about it. How he is not going to return and play you know -- as many minutes as we're used to seeing him play. He might play five minutes his. -- -- would let that happen. Yeah he has stood that's that's part of that's part of the rehabilitation you don't come back and go full throttle you come back into the ease into your minutes played pretty -- -- than -- goes up to ten minutes. Well and his responsibilities are going to be the same. He's not gonna have the same responsibilities that we're used to seeing -- carried the team so. It's totally different of course that's gonna change and I think it absolutely will affect the way you're thinking now the. You think you're Derek can trust lives on the minutes thing I I think so many big time the first big -- Tom photos get recently this has been a really good coach in this time you think about Vinny Del Negro before him. I think you look at what Tom Thibodeau -- -- -- this team. He's still the credibility with those guys and maybe he pushes a little too much sometimes but overall the reason they're over 500 without one of the best players in the league is because of Tom Thibodeau is coaching I think but I also think of Derrick Rose is healthy it might not be the most popular opinion. When he goes if he's a 100% healthy physically. The mental thing it's always going to be there until -- goes on the court tries it and if he is a 100% healthy I think he owes it to his teammates to come back this year. Think -- people and that's for people are wrong part of your your physical. 100% coming back. Is the mental part part of it is the -- the highlight of my children he'd say that right now while I have when -- -- is -- Keane is not Derrick Rose is not an MVP. But the mental thing you know I mean why is that ever gonna be -- all but he's not gonna have to cross -- mean he's a serious knee injury whether he doesn't Lowry doesn't next October late October he's still gonna have a mental issue in doubt like any human being would when they suffer a serious knee injury I I think at some point he's got to get over that he's got to get on the court. I am sorry if he's still young his first major injury that he's returning from he's learning all that that we all now having watched this for years and years. And it's really hard being -- family business. These failing business not only does your family completely reliant and you for the failing business and you are yet but so does this city. The team your teammates. I think I think he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and he is trying to figure at all. Out you know maybe -- that's the problem for -- girls unfortunately another -- you know Michael Jordan when he broke his -- that second season there was no reason from the comeback that team was terrible but he he was literally breaking down -- does he wanted to come back with a broken foot but it was a different era -- was signed with Nike but it was kind of pretty much Michael against the Bulls organization now it's. A. When your ankle also -- it more his legacy. Michael is there -- you know out of the way he is now granted so big that it was a special Adrian Peterson same thing yet I don't think that I don't think -- carries that kind of an -- -- -- -- talking at least clear the -- with everything that was going on around in the act like he was surprised it didn't all the talk was going -- I think he. Perfectly well knew he needed talked to the media the other day. But I'm still wondering if it does his teammates can put on a good front saying they fully support him but if they see in scrimmage you practice is good or better than anybody. And they're out there struggling and playing through. Pain we've been around hockey players the last three years you know what their attitude about it and get. An extra point and it's finally good to see that -- showing his message known as such as coach speak or his Brothers talk informants. He's getting in front of the cameras he's telling you how he's feeling there's no. Mixed messages here it was kind of relieving to hear him say this is on me on trying to get over this mentally thing. And I related to a Jonathan Toews was when when it is concussion he had the over some mental hurdles he was he passed all his tests. But he wanted to be comfortable with himself and what he was doing and -- the ice. They're just like Derek wants to be in court so I think it's almost a good sign that now that you're seeing Derek getting in front of cameras talking to reporters because. I think it's the next adapt to at least with. His rehabilitation he's mentally I believe. I'm sure there's a certain amount of equity there that he's built with with the phantom here. But if that's all he's saying now I think the fans appreciate that he came out and said that but now with the team struggling as it is. I think more people might be thinking her right police get out there and give the human. -- I I I. I think this is actually going to have an effect on his thought process. I absolutely think he's coming back this year there is no way he's going to sit out and and risks all the criticism that will come his way. You know where's all the tweets where's all the tweets from fellow NBA players sit on the Derrick has -- come back yet -- Jay Cutler got. You know when he when he left with injury you know. Listen it's gonna have an effect on him. It well and all the criticism and if you really want the legacy. Of being a superstar. Then you put that he go out there let's.
