Transcript
Who are you gonna get it gets any better. You're talking about awful way to look at the -- what look at what our columnist is awful but Rory gets any better the first ball. He he has the best record since it is somebody back in 1920s or something that northwestern coach k's at the best record of anybody that's been there for awhile. Secondly did you know this. He has the best. Percentage. In Ivy League history. When he was at Princeton who think about think back thirteen fourteen years ago when he came out of Princeton he was the hot coach Wright and Pete Correll everybody everybody wanted on. He comes in northwestern. OK he never makes the tournament. But he you know he he wins. It's just too. Hard to recruit there to the how many years did yet so he -- thirteen is -- -- you're -- -- -- -- so so Q are you tenure is that we got to bring in Italy this creek Chris Collins to see the guy admit maybe Chris Collins is the guy I mean when you had already ahead Kevin -- -- had a high profile -- there. He recruited pretty well he's -- Well what's what's Chicago I mean it at what point then of missiles thirteen years so it so if they don't go to the tournaments. And -- perform or I mean seventeen yeah you just never. Change the coach because he's the best coach since the nineteen point guy or whatever he did. He did have a lot of injuries that crept up on him or Boucher absolutely no I I agree but I think. If you -- a coach down when he when he first comes to your organization you say. I might give you thirteen years in the NCAA job to give you thirteen years. To get to the inevitably they're over a million dollar right here in this day and age where we're Smart people schools do go to the tournament and do well there are people school Lugo. And you can't give that team ended the tournament. Then I think that that's a pretty good run that's a pretty good thing to put on your -- say I coached for thirteen years. At a Big Ten prohibited them -- it's not so -- Smart people school it's that that there's no legacy of basketball that's queries and there's nowhere to hide him let me start up his player. Do you think you flipped the script and go to football look at what Pat Fitzgerald has been able to do with the football program okay. They heat he's he's put them on a higher level than what northwestern football wasn't the pats. And I think the same can account for for basketball sure is very very difficult to recruit all these guys are doing whatever they have Q did to bring -- some recruit but. -- backyard to Chicago and you mean to tell me you can't convince may be top cap big leaguer that can come to your program and and and start something new you mean to tell me there's not one individual and publicly did you didn't. Convince media. Second or third tier player in the publicly to say hey. You may not be a star you know for Purdue. Or or or is no you know Carolinas or whoever but we can get you started here and we can get you to follow similar I mean -- you know I mean you talk through your body's. When you're in school -- they hate. Man let's go over your plate just like that he did bring it out and you don't know Lloyd gets them let's come over and start something new I will say though. Admit there it has been and maybe this is going to change soon that there has been a disadvantage with the facilities obviously at northwestern or Tim -- on the score this morning and he was talking about. The fact that like he he first went to saint John's and and it was you know that or northwestern you thought okay. Got Evans and -- these facilities and and I could play it and I know New York's a whole different animal obviously our -- Madison Square Garden or these facilities. Throw for better for worse then means something the players and let. Okay you can not finished seventh. Seventh in the Big Ten because seven teams are going to the turner this year seventh. I'm not asking first -- seven. You can't even make it to the dance are you kidding me. Well even make it to the listen so you're saying you would not fire -- what is. Yeah -- -- a thirteen years is too bad so not that don't know the guy who's the guy that can turnaround in and -- -- -- what do I want a little I would hire Chris -- I would too. I don't want to hire because that was big big time program with the Big Ten program we're talking about -- so you think Chris Collins might have a pipeline. To that the city -- the Suns got an ambulance I think bill's an excellent coach I've watched him run a practice he has excellent basketball coach. But if I was the AB I would look at any -- bill your wonderful guy you've really worked hard you've gotten -- more success that we had. Spent thirteen years I'm just gonna go a different direction -- gets a fair way to say it. Did you look at if you look at the ball back in the day before. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- wasn't something that to write home about scream about and then they get. One recruit Mark McGwire Terry come Terry Cummings Terry -- did they -- Jason yesterday it started coming here they think they alleviated that they make a run -- and they become a diabetic has that -- -- -- Was little I know what to take those those are the old days they're gone and who's in who's the last big Chicago guy. To stay home skip Dillard Tom -- club hybrid so. Yeah those four years ago.
