That is one year ago. This did not. Yeah. -- On the verge of its first appearance in the NCAA tournament former Soviet star Steve Taylor through here is beginning to find his groove with the press that mark yet. Although it was accustomed rigorous travel schedule Simeon life in the big east has certainly been an adjustment. A normal day start for practice at 7 AM today he begins his day at a tree is. Different as -- like some guys who have actually. What I usually we have relievers you don't -- earlier than us. Can. Way. And I think about myself like you know -- -- he's whichever. And history. Because par -- of the like he did. Just twelve months ago Taylor was the senior looking for help the younger teammates in the quest for a championship. Now the roles -- reversed that plays are helping this year senior he pushed hard for minutes on the court the loss bars at times. It's thrived since day one as -- opening guys despite some bumps along the way. I think there were times. He didn't understand all. This comment. But because of the game I think because his background his toughness. It's -- he wasn't going to be outlook I think he got down that morning game. It wasn't just about I'm going to get through who -- it was more -- among all that he's -- -- out. And I think that comes from. That's just the Chicago blue collar. I think -- progress on the court with something that he wasn't too. As much as it was happening. I think he's starting to realize now like while I'm pretty good -- -- NC count. And we their minutes they've stepped off before we knew he was going to be really good players. I don't think it was movies are good news unfortunately. -- and and that I don't know resist so we'll as well as because they -- fish off and it has left a message to. Taylor chose to it and it was 45 at Marquette and number that carry -- -- -- significance. Retired during his high school playing days where it's 25 allows us at the end -- to honor the memory of that will sent. Who had his kids and college scholarship taken. Promise more moments when if that means a lot to me because. Just thinking back. Like to where he was well I am now just imagine if he was he gets -- me to come into foot eagle please go to college Scola for a professional that's what. And there's no I don't know with the -- -- so. Designed just thankful just me you know because. This I was really right now so we'll just thankful. From the trainers table. It's got to -- his first two midterm for the day to see you know. It's. -- -- -- There's. When you're next up the back -- the Al McGuire center decided the basketball ops plus 300 pounds home floor. When when you live there probably make a stop -- head coach Buzz Williams -- Record. You're one of only. One and -- Oh good -- These years you -- state championship. There -- either one of these guys. -- look for lunch Taylor pub broadcast major as an hour study hall of give them that. He made to an academic advisor before spending the next hours studying for its second test of the day for him. It's all part of the process and despite some ups and downs it's a process he's excelling at both on and off the court. Despite his growth. -- I've -- if it's. Guys. We always plan alive -- -- came out now might -- square. One of my plan is blessed and I'm -- my way up again and again. There's a transition from high school college. I think because success you've had over the the previous three years he kind of throw with a time of understanding his role and that's that's understandable. Won't come before you came from he has a critical and pivotal role. On our team and it takes a while for kids understand like OK I can be really important. And I'm not playing forty minutes there's going to be a time when we're gonna turn to -- go dude you got to play 35 minutes he's a look around and -- can I get a break. But that's the process now and and and Davis handled it really well his mentality I said to coach a couple of days ago Steve's an unbelievable place mentally. I think he's. He's big he's figuring things out just like it's what you love to see kids as they get to a program and you want to have all the success they can possibly have but it's a process. Just as important as improving speed a basketball player he's improving Steve the first six. A little people know me matches and that's what was -- -- for me as opposed to because I'm old school -- I'm pretty soon not the ideal list so you know everybody's just you need is. Steve -- disaster -- -- every kid goes through a process of of learning and get onto campus this works harder. Basketball's -- everything is different and harder than ever and I've been -- -- Growth has been phenomenal in terms of both on the court and off. Effectiveness. He's always -- always. Found his life of the party but in a positive way with a new people out here. I just think in his -- from high school here discount them because you can. Taylor back story style of play and felt like that was another reason Marquette success stories -- Bulls forwards in the Butler. Backseat in terms final blocking my Jimmy who has been. The most about him is that he really kept him out of the anti personnel changes and work hard and -- -- it because he knows anything can go back home so. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Listening to him every day Jimmy Butler wouldn't even look at the basket. His first year when they look at it you'll get an offensive rebounds or somebody else. And now he's playing for the Bulls and was our best players the same junior and senior and that's the same process that you need Steve on the right things it takes -- loss -- After his last classic stuff in the weight room to start one last practice before matchup against -- -- With a share of the big east title on the line. Taylor's work ethic at practice it's just one indication. That the future's bright we're the best prep players that out of Chicago. Coach Rose. Employees. Into the news that -- it was -- so. If you continue to work. Numbers or Youkilis double to play. But he's been doing I don't see him and then -- everybody wants to take -- -- I think that's the tables of the big. Part of success. If he continues to get better which we think we'll. We have to keep that in pieces around to achieve the ultimate goal obviously when that contentious how are you gonna handle the next that's the next step and that's the that's the process of any program that's what people go through and I think that his. His ultimately -- confidence in his ability and his. And his background of what he's done I think we'll serve very well I don't -- it wouldn't surprise me at all that he does it become one of the best players who have. Practice the books sunset there's another arduous day at the golden eagle. I enjoy myself here. -- If it's progress over here one is any indication there's little reason to believe Taylor hit Mir and they did Chicago. Go out on top. Of course going out on top of the -- that it's amazing the high school. As Lil Rounds the way he has no idea for us. Try to relive that moment again -- -- I'm David Kaplan my immediate. We just they go thanks. Comcast sports net.
