-- Philadelphia the next the last race before the chase was in Atlanta Sunday night that they'll spot Cowboys. The eighteen -- holding -- Martin Truex junior on the restart. Six laps to go but holding a comfortable lead. Battle for second Joey MacDonald -- -- rolls past Kurt Busch -- in the third closing it out Truex junior. Two laps to go down a youngster who got -- that's just Truex junior who got a lot of race I. 77 laps final laptop toward -- for 12 lead over the Ottawa he gets the checkered flag easy. That when he replaces a spot in the chase for the cup for -- third win of the season. There we welcome. The one and only Scott paddock to the studio we see it here each week. Right let's talk about -- -- is this the next great star. He he he really he really is he came in a couple years ago cap with that kind of -- they thought this was the next Jeff Gordon. Didn't necessarily live up to expectations. Showed some immaturity early on in his career but I think now is part of Joseph Gibbs racing he's really come into his own end. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years and you know talk about Joseph Gibbs racing I mean it's amazing kind of transition that they made and how successful they have. Kyle Busch on the outside looking in last year in the chase he's that he's proven to be one of the hottest drivers going and it's -- Let's talk about the chase because the first race -- the chase is it your place we got guys this week -- like Jeff Gordon. They don't have a good week they're out. You're right we've got six locked in on points and in Kasey Kahne by virtue of his two wild card wins but only one race remaining and he's locked in. So you've literally got seven drivers now as we. We need some of the biggest -- in for three spots you exactly you know Greg Biffle Kurt Busch Jeff Gordon. Ryan Newman Brad Kozlowski last year's defending champion and and how appropriate that we're gonna go to Richmond speedway it's a short track was why turned so it enables. Three wide racing in terms it's going to be an incredible race this Saturday night at Richmond and see who makes the chase that. I'm going to -- did drivers like the system. I think they do I mean it's take it some of the traditionalist -- us. Lord it took him awhile to get bored with the but I think everybody recognizes now. And likes the fact that you've got a guy like. You know Jeff Gordon here he's on the outside looking in but if he's able to get a couple wins -- during the course of -- season. He can get into the chase so you're never really out now that they have that while -- puts more of a premium on winning races. And it started many many years you -- that Kansas won the championship bout winning races but just consistently finishing. And so I think everybody likes the premium on winning the pitch he -- first let's just say that was going to be my question which is. And the arena place now where finishing you know fourth isn't good enough for a fan base that -- for their guy. Well you've got to be consistent particularly when that chase starts we learned that than the last couple years and if you get off to a bad start at -- in speedway in the first race in the chase. You're gonna have a hard time winning that championship the last two years. Conversely. Brad Kozlowski. And Tony Stewart -- kickoff for us in the chase and propel him on so. I think it's it's a good me because consistency is important but also there's a premium on winning. Including now when the Chase Field gets reset after Richmond this weekend. All the driver started 2000 points. But with three points for each victory. So even these drivers that are firmly into the chase guys like Jimmy Johnson put forward they still want to win because they want their three margin. Advantage -- been next week. All right I look at. Brad Keselowski and I think that Brad Kozlowski. Should be in the chase because he's the defending champs like golf you were your tour card you win a -- a year. Grandfathered in for a number of years at the masters of the US open get a ten year exemption. What about saying. One extra spot you're the defending champ you're automatically in. Well that's interest and I like that. You know they do that in qualifying if if you haven't qualified. Provisional championship. From a past champion provisional that you give into it. But that's an interesting interesting idea and and I think you know. We may see some more tweaks to this chase format I think. It's it's served well what with the balance of consistency and winning but I think they're always -- them -- when NASCAR sort of the last couple years. Is a willingness to adapt particularly with fan feedback from the action since. -- in the truck race the other day and they do not do a great. Okay I'll watch the highlight. Delegate keep -- -- -- the spot -- driver Max Pappas and Mike -- get involved in the crash toward the end of the race spot Jets coming up. Okay right there. After the checkered flag to start yelling at each other from the cards there were heading back to the pits. Then things flare up further with schemes -- Brad is got to confront Pappas and slap in the face it dislocated his -- -- believable AM that this would give -- yeah what were some doubts yeah I don't know high. OK. So what could he get a rest and what's gonna happen to him. Make this stuff on the mean that's what's been so interesting about this season in particular -- no shortage of drama and and unscripted drama such is that you see here in. And we've seen a pattern you know throughout the years of drivers kind of mix it up on the racetrack carrying that over post race and then and in recent years. You know doing late in the evening on Twitter going back and forth from each other but I can't recall seeing something like this where. The significant other driver kind of takes matters into her own hands what was -- Max Pappas said that he dislocated his jaw. Any retracted that and said it was. -- sprained and he blamed it on the language barrier being in the English isn't -- he also told the reporters we now know the man that family. So you know if you wanna see the sequel to this you know come check out the Camping World truck series Friday September 13 under lights at Chicago and -- -- And I we got rinks and always will sales that are got louder -- at what the go ahead and. This is just the girlfriend can you imagine like if she was the white which -- she -- -- would have been close this horse she's the one that was evident right. There my wedding -- yeah letting ray you I don't -- packs a punch and different. Well my interview where we -- crowds you guys expecting from my tourists and suffers from the -- for that reason obviously for the big one on the fifteenth yeah I would have had. What's been so unique about this first position and hosting the chase this is the third year in a row. We've had that honor and I think the reason NASCAR moved the kickoff race in the chase for Chicago's they wanted to give it. The big platform the big stage at the kickoff race deserves and what better market to do that someone like Chicago. And what it's done it's it's truly elevated the profile of arms and made it not that it wasn't national until before but. We've got season ticket holders and fans have come from all fifty states I've come from international countries because they wanted to enjoy Chicago. And they wanna enjoy the magic of the kickoff race in NASCAR's playoffs so. It's really it's really been interesting in and really exhilarating in. We we are vision was to create -- we just kind of Super Bowl programming the week leading into the chase. And that's what we have now when you look at all the the media events the fan events the charity events going on that week leading into the chase it's really an industry event now we're very proud of that. All right with -- picks. You are still leading -- get to go for I'm gonna deal with Kyle Busch despite the fact that he -- Richard Petty firmly locked in that Tony Stewart prepare he's firmly locked in the chase I think he's just on a mission now he's upset about not making the chase last year. I think he understands how important these bonus points are. And Joseph Gibbs racing has really dominated Richmond international race where the last several years on a goalie Jeff Gordon needs six points that. Make up so I'm really go Jones will be going all out to make it and should be great and we'll see how they chase lineup was set for September 15 -- -- next -- -- -- the -- Big -- south he's from Chicago you are the winner of our weekly NASCAR could cut that's CSN Chicago dot com -- you tickets -- -- 400. Coming up next week don't forget you can join in about two time running out though if it got to that -- to make your pick to win each race one where each week. It's two tickets -- -- 400 that starts played thirteen. Chase for the Sprint Cup or grand prize winner gets a trip to the -- -- season ending awards ceremony. The win hotel and make.
