St. Xavier falls to Marian in NAIA Division II championship game

St. Xavier didn't have another rally in them on Tuesday.

St. Xavier fell to Marian, 66-52, in the NAIA Division II national championship game at the Tyson Events Center in Iowa. It was St. Xavier's first ever championship appearance.

Things were going well for the Cougars, who led 30-23 at halftime. But a third quarter where St. Xavier was outscored by 16 sealed Marian's second straight championship.

Brittany Collins led the Cougars in scoring with 14 points and eight rebounds. Maddie Welter and Mikayla Leyden each had 11 points and combined for 13 rebounds.

The Cougars finished their season with a 34-3 record.
