2005 White Sox reunite and discuss what made their squad so special

What happens when you reunite seven key members of the 2005 White Sox on a Zoom call?

You’re about to find out.

Ozzie Guillen, A.J. Pierzynski, Jermaine Dye, Jon Garland, Aaron Rowand, Geoff Blum, and Cliff Politte joined me for a 2005 reunion on “Be Chicago: Together We Can” telethon Wednesday on NBC Sports Chicago, raising money for the fight against COVID-19.

They shared some of their favorite memories from that championship season,  telling stories that most people have never heard before.  Among them:

*Freddy Garcia demanded that Ozzie Guillen let him finish Game 4 of the ALCS

*A.J. Pierzynski and Carl Everett almost came to blows in the clubhouse before a game

*Juan Uribe didn’t know the names of most of his White Sox teammates

Plus, Guillen explains why he told GM Kenny Williams after the 2004 season that certain players needed to be traded if they hoped to win in 2005.  Blum describes what it’s like being a Houston Astros broadcaster and going back to the scene of his game-winning home run time and time again.   Rowand talks about the time Guillen threw Dye under the bus after a game, so he found a Dye jersey, drove a cart over it, and hung it in the clubhouse for Guillen to see.

And of course, they discuss what made the 2005 team so special.
