Shortstop Sergio Alcántara made three errors Saturday vs. the Marlins, leading to five unearned runs in a 5-4 Cubs loss.
It got worse from there as the Cubs lost for the 10th straight time, their second 10-game losing streak of the season. It's second time that's happened in franchise history, along with 1954.
"He had a rough night, but I think that happens to anybody that’s able to play this game long enough and have the privilege to play at this level," Ross said Alcántara.

"You're going to have some bad nights, so you’ve got to turn the page."
The Cubs led 1-0 in the sixth inning when starter Zach Davies walked slugger Jesús Aguilar with two outs. Davies induced a groundball to the next batter, Lewis Brinson.
Alcántara made a backhanded stop in the shortstop hole, but his throw to second base for a force out sailed wide of David Bote. Brian Anderson then stepped up and hit a go-ahead three-run home run.
After the Cubs rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth, Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a leadoff double off Codi Heuer, moving to third when a Brinson ground ball evaded Alcántara on the short hop.

Alcántara bobbled an Anderson grounder moments later, bringing home the tying run. Miami soon took the lead on a single.
“That last ball there, you’ve got a fast runner getting out of the box,” Ross said. “You're trying to save the game and really charge it hard.
“That's kind of one of those do-or-die plays he's trying to make and get us [a double play] to get out of that inning with the lead. It didn't work out.
Heuer got out of the inning after the single with a pop out and strikeout.
“I thought Codi did a really nice job,” Ross said. “Continued to make pitches, battled through a lot of mistakes behind him, kept his composure. That’s where the presence of him being in the big leagues a little bit, having some seasoning under his belt, really showed tonight.
“He just continued to do his job and kept us in the ballgame.”
