Astros beat out White Sox for ALDS home-field advantage

The Astros beat the A's 10-4 on Saturday, claiming home-field advantage against the White Sox in the American League Division Series. The Astros seized the No. 2 seed in the AL, solidifying the White Sox as the No. 3 seed.

"We're fully invested in going to Houston and at least getting one, squeaking out one win, and coming home in a tied series," said White Sox lefty Dallas Keuchel, who spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Astros. "But that place is loud. It's a dome, the fans there are very knowledgeable, they love baseball and they know certain situations when to get loud, when to get extra loud. We'll have our hands full, but I really do like our chances, so we'll see."

The White Sox will open the postseason in Houston next Thursday. After playing Game 1 and Game 2 on the road, they’re set to return to Guaranteed Rate Field for Game 3 and an if-necessary Game 4 on Oct. 10 and 11. If the series still hasn’t been decided, they're scheduled to play the series finale at Houston on Oct. 13.

The White Sox have been a much better home team (53-27) than road team (40-41) this season. But that didn't stop manager Tony La Russa from taking an almost neutral stance on home-field advantage when the topic came up last month.

"We would love to have home field advantage because you can see our numbers are better here, but we’ve played well on the road at times – most times," he said. “Postseason’s what it is, which means it’s relevant, but it’s not determinative. We’ve had the home field and been beaten by the club that didn’t have it. So, it just proves that, that’s the unpredictability of the postseason. It’s be nice to have it, but it's nicer just to get in and have a chance to compete.”
