‘Car Bomb' ticking on time, works on boxing during rehab

Daniel Carcillo missed last years Blackhawks Convention shortly after he was signed in free agency to attend his little brothers wedding, so hes getting his first taste of this event as a member of the organization.

He also missed the last four months of the season, including the playoffs, after tearing up his knee on a hit for which he was also suspended. The recovery process is almost complete.

Ive been in the clear to do everything and start pushing it. Its been going well, Carcillo said of his rehab Friday at Blackhawks Convention. He has started skating on his own, but will take it to another level in the coming weeks, expecting to be fully ready for training camp if it begins on time in September.

If theres one Hawk especially anxious for a season to start on time, its Carcillo, because he feels hell return an even better player.

Very confident. Ive been in the gym a long time. You dont usually get this amount of time to work out (while recovering). Summers are usually short. I feel stronger now than ever, Carcillo explained.

Part of his workout regimen now includes boxing. He admitted it with a sheepish grin, but says it has nothing to do with adding more Boom to his bombs.

Just something to switch (training) up. Keep it fresh.

Between the time his season came to an end Jan. 2 with his knee injury and now, he received a two-year contract extension and the team fell from the top spot in the entire NHL. Any coincidence? Carcillo showed hes not taking himself and his contributions too seriously.

Doubtful, he laughed.
